There is no evidence here for a single, independently tested “best-rated” TV converter box. The right choice depends on whether the box’s output matches an input on your TV, whether its tuner supports the broadcasts you want to receive, and whether you need recording. Every antenna converter also needs an antenna signal; the box does not create one.
What a TV converter box does—and what it cannot do
An over-the-air converter receives television broadcasts through an antenna and sends video and audio to a screen. It is useful when a TV or monitor lacks a compatible broadcast tuner, or when you need connections that the display does not provide. It does not replace an antenna or guarantee reception: results depend on the available signal and antenna setup.

The consumer models discussed here list ATSC tuners for antenna broadcasts. Do not assume that an ATSC 1.0 box also supports ATSC 3.0; those are distinct tuner paths. Check the product’s exact configuration and the broadcast standards used where you live.
Check these three compatibility points first
1. Match the box’s output to a TV input
Look at the TV’s input panel, then compare it with the converter’s actual outputs. HDMI is usually the straightforward connection for a TV with HDMI input. Older sets may use composite RCA video and audio inputs, or may require a genuine RF output compatible with the set. A coax connector labeled RF pass-through is not necessarily a converted TV output: it can pass an incoming signal onward without turning it into a usable output for the TV. Confirm the exact port function in the model specifications.

- HDMI: The Mediasonic HomeWorx HW130STB-G2 lists HDMI output up to 1080p. Naxa lists HD video output up to 1080p for the NT-54.
- Composite RCA: Both cited models list composite connections. Confirm whether the TV has the matching video and audio inputs and whether the required cables are included.
- Coax/RF: Check whether the port is an output, input, or pass-through. Naxa describes coax RF pass-through; that should not be mistaken for a converted signal output.
2. Confirm the tuner standard and market
The Mediasonic HW130STB-G2 and Naxa NT-54 list ATSC reception for antenna broadcasts. Mediasonic also specifies Clear QAM support only for unencrypted cable; that is a separate use from receiving antenna channels. If you specifically need ATSC 3.0, verify that the selected model and tuner configuration support it rather than relying on a generic “digital” label.
3. Decide whether recording is worth the storage setup
Recording and time-shift features require compatible external storage on the cited models; storage is not the same as built-in DVR capacity. Check the supported drive type, capacity, and format, as well as how scheduling and time-shifting work, before buying.

What the listed models actually specify
Mediasonic HomeWorx HW130STB-G2
Mediasonic says this model receives over-the-air ATSC broadcasts on analog and digital TVs, projectors, and computer monitors. It lists HDMI output up to 1080p, composite and coax outputs, closed captioning, and channel 3/4 support for older TVs. It also lists playback of USB media and real-time and programmed recording with an external USB 2.0/3.0 hard drive up to 2 TB, formatted as MBR; the manufacturer says USB flash drives are not recommended. Clear QAM support is limited to unencrypted cable. The manufacturer page called the listing a 2026 new hardware version and showed it as sold out at access time, so that page does not establish present availability. See Mediasonic’s specifications.
Naxa NT-54
Naxa lists an ATSC/NTSC tuner, antenna RF input, HD video output up to 1080p, composite video and audio, and coax RF pass-through. It advertises time-shift recording with a USB drive that is not included, along with analog pass-through. The specification does not make the RF pass-through equivalent to a converted RF output; check the port descriptions and the TV’s inputs before selecting it. See Naxa’s specifications.

- Identify the TV’s available inputs: HDMI, composite RCA, or a compatible RF input.
- Choose a converter whose documented output matches that input. Do not count an RF pass-through port as a converted output.
- Confirm the tuner standard and geographic market for the broadcasts you want to receive, including whether ATSC 3.0 is specifically required.
- Check whether you need an antenna, and plan for compatible external USB storage if recording or time-shifting matters.
