The headline does not identify the game, and the available reports point to several different PS2 titles. Two plausible candidates are Mister Mosquito, reported as a PlayStation Plus Premium addition in September 2024, and Gitaroo Man, reported in the Classics Catalog in June 2026. Neither report establishes that the game is currently available in every region, so the exact title and your local catalog listing matter.
There is no confirmed single answer to “the freakiest PS2 game”
“Freakiest” is a personal description, not a reliable way to identify a game. The reports available for this headline do not establish which title its author meant, and the candidates have very different premises.

| Game | What you do | Catalog report | What the report establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mister Mosquito (also called Mr Moskeeto in Europe and Ka in Japan) | Play as a mosquito trying to drink a Japanese family’s blood without being detected, learning their routines and targeting body parts. | Games Asylum reported a PlayStation Plus Premium addition on September 11, 2024. | A dated report of an addition; it does not establish current availability in every region. Games Asylum |
| Gitaroo Man | Follow a schoolboy who becomes a guitar-wielding hero and fights through musical battles in a rhythm adventure. | GameSpot reported a Classics Catalog arrival on June 2, 2026; Push Square reported access options on June 16, 2026. | GameSpot characterized its western release as low-quantity, without giving a sales figure or formal rarity ranking. The reports do not establish current availability in every region. GameSpot; Push Square |
| Ghosthunter | A separate PS2 action-horror game with a strange premise. | Forbes reported its Premium arrival on June 12, 2024. | Another reported addition that makes “freakiest” insufficient to identify the intended title; current regional availability is not established. Forbes |
What “free on PlayStation Plus” means
A game in the Classics Catalog is available as a subscription benefit under the applicable PlayStation Plus tier and terms; that is not the same as buying a permanent copy. For Gitaroo Man, a June 2026 Push Square report says players could access it through Premium or purchase it outright. The purchase option and the subscription option are distinct. Push Square
PlayStation describes its Classics Catalog as spanning PS1, PS2, and PS3 games, but that general overview does not confirm a particular game’s current listing or regional availability. Check the PlayStation Plus catalog for your account’s country before subscribing specifically for one title. PlayStation

How to check whether the game is available to you
- Open PlayStation’s official Classics Catalog page and search for the exact title you want. PlayStation Classics Catalog
- Check the listing while signed in to the account and region where you plan to play; catalog availability can differ by region and change over time.
- Read the listing’s access and purchase options. If access is included with a subscription, confirm the required tier and keep in mind that subscription access is not an outright purchase.
Which candidate fits the description?
If the appeal is an unusually odd premise
Mister Mosquito is the most literal fit for an unconventional setup: you control a mosquito trying to feed on a family while avoiding detection. Games Asylum reported its Premium addition in September 2024, but that report alone cannot tell you whether it remains in your regional catalog. Games Asylum
If “rarity” means a scarce western PS2 release
Gitaroo Man is the candidate tied to a report about limited western release quantities. GameSpot’s wording is qualitative: it does not provide a number of copies, sales data, or a ranking that would prove how rare the game is. Its June 2026 catalog report is evidence of an addition at that time, not a guarantee of present access in every country. GameSpot

Ghosthunter is the action-horror candidate; Forbes reported it joined Premium in June 2024. Its inclusion underscores why a subjective label such as “freakiest” cannot resolve the game’s identity on its own. Forbes
