A game being playable through backward compatibility is also different from being available to buy digitally today.

What is documented for Xbox?
In 2019, Xbox Wire announced that the original Xbox versions of Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory and Double Agent joined the backward-compatibility program for Xbox One. At the time, Xbox said eligible original Xbox and Xbox 360 games could be played with an owned disc or purchased digitally through Microsoft Store. Xbox Wire’s announcement is historical: it does not confirm that each game remains digitally purchasable in every region or establish title-by-title support on current Xbox Series consoles. Check the local Xbox store and compatibility details for the exact game and console before relying on either route.

What about PlayStation?
PlayStation’s announcement documents an HD Trilogy for PlayStation 3 containing Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. It does not establish availability or compatibility on PS4 or PS5, so the PS3 release should not be treated as proof that those games run on current PlayStation consoles. Check the purchase route before you buy
First decide whether you need a game to be playable on hardware you already own or available for digital purchase now. For Xbox, an old disc-compatibility announcement does not guarantee a current digital listing; check your local store and confirm compatibility for the exact console generation. For PlayStation, the documented trilogy is a PS3 release, not evidence of PS4 or PS5 support. On PC, confirm the live store listing and system requirements for the individual title.
