Try motion processing only if you prefer its effect, use Studio Calibrated mode in supported streaming apps when you want its creator-intended presentation, and follow Sony’s OLED care advice. Sony’s published guidance does not establish one set of numeric settings that is right for every BRAVIA 8 II owner.
Where to find picture settings on the BRAVIA 8 II
Press the remote’s Quick Settings button, open Settings → Display & Sound, then follow the path shown on your TV: Picture & Sound → Picture or Picture. Sony says settings can be adjusted while content is playing, and the on-screen descriptions can help explain individual controls. Menu names and available options can vary with software, region, input, and model variant, so use the TV’s displayed menu as the authority. Sony’s picture-setting guide gives general Google TV control descriptions.

Which picture mode should you use?
Choose a mode as a starting point, not as a universal prescription. Sony’s general Google TV guidance describes these purposes; the modes available can vary by model.

| Mode | When to try it | Sony’s general description |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Everyday TV and mixed use | Suitable for everyday home use. |
| Cinema | Movies watched at home | Suitable for watching movies at home. |
| Professional | When you want to preserve the original content quality and customize the image | Preserves original content quality and allows customization. |
| Game | Gaming | Minimizes input delay. |
To compare modes fairly, keep the content, input, room lighting, and viewing distance the same. Consider whether a mode gives you the look you want and whether the image remains visible in your room. The best choice depends on the content and your preferences.
Should Auto Picture Mode or the light sensor stay on?
Auto Picture Mode
Sony says Auto Picture Mode can change picture mode according to content, but it works only with an HDMI input. If the picture mode changes unexpectedly while watching an HDMI source, check whether this feature is on. Sony’s general support description says, “When Auto Picture Mode is set to On, the Picture mode will change automatically according to the content.”
Light sensor
Sony describes the Light sensor as adjusting picture quality to ambient light, including making the screen darker in a dark environment. Leave it enabled if automatic room-based changes suit you; turn it off if you prefer to choose brightness yourself. The right choice depends on whether those changes help in your viewing conditions.
Which brightness and color controls are worth changing?
Brightness-related controls do different jobs: screen luminance affects overall light output, while gamma, HDR tone mapping, black level, and contrast affect other parts of the image. Change one control at a time while watching familiar content so you can tell what it changes. If the picture is too dim or bright for the room, begin with the controls that affect luminance rather than making broad changes to advanced color adjustments.

It covers the essential components, including televisions, soundbars, wall mounts, and speakers, detailing their functions and importance. The guide also discusses preparing a room for optimal viewing, considering size, layout, seating distance, lighting, and acoustics.
Sony describes color temperature as a reference for image color reproduction and Live Color as a control that expands vividness. Whether to change them is a matter of preference and the look you want. Sony says ordinary users do not need to adjust advanced white balance or multi-point color controls; multi-point adjustment requires professional calibration tools. Its general guide does not guarantee that every control or value appears on every BRAVIA 8 II software version or regional model.
Should you change Sharpness, Reality Creation, or noise reduction?
Sony describes Sharpness as edge and detail emphasis, with 50 given as the reference value in its general Google TV article. Treat that as a general reference, not a measured BRAVIA 8 II calibration. Reality Creation provides detail enhancement and noise reduction; separate random and digital noise reduction and smooth gradation controls may also be available.
Try these processing options on the kind of video that might benefit, such as noisy or lower-quality material. Compare the result with processing off, watching for unwanted changes as well as improvements. Sony’s descriptions do not establish a universal processing recipe for this model.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen should you use Motionflow or Film Mode?
Sony describes Motionflow as adjusting Smoothness and Clearness and increasing the number of frames displayed to make movement smoother. Film Mode, also called CineMotion in Sony’s description, is intended to reproduce film content such as movies shot at 24 frames per second.

Motion preferences are subjective, and controls can be unavailable or behave differently by model. Compare the options using both film and faster-moving material. If smoother movement is not worth the processing artifacts you see, choose a less processed result; there is no single preference everyone needs to adopt.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does Studio Calibrated mode do?
Sony says Studio Calibrated mode is designed to reproduce content as creators intended and can be set according to viewing preferences. Its instructions identify Netflix, Prime Video, and Sony Pictures Core. Sony cautions that streaming picture quality can look different from broadcasts and other video while this mode is active. If you want to select another Picture mode setting, turn Studio Calibrated mode off. See Sony’s Studio Calibrated mode instructions.
How to reduce OLED image-retention risk
Sony advises avoiding static images with bright colors, clocks, or logos. Its OLED guidance also identifies Ambient light sensor, Light sensor, Light and Color sensor, and Peak Luminance among the settings to check when managing screen brightness. Sony recommends Standard for home use and programs displaying station logos as part of this guidance. These are risk-reduction recommendations, not a guarantee that image retention cannot occur. Read Sony’s OLED image-retention guidance.
A practical way to compare changes
- Open the picture controls from Quick Settings and use the path offered by your TV.
- Choose a starting picture mode that fits the content, then watch a familiar scene.
- Keep the input, room lighting, and viewing distance consistent while comparing options.
- Change one control at a time. Check whether it improves the look you want, visibility in the room, or motion without introducing distracting processing effects.
- If an automatic feature changes the image unexpectedly, check Auto Picture Mode for HDMI content and the light sensor for room-based brightness changes.
Sony’s published support material describes the controls but does not provide a universal, numerically specified calibration for every owner. The most useful changes are the ones you can see and prefer under your own viewing conditions.
