The best Sonos soundbar for your living room depends less on a headline channel count than on your budget, TV connections, the content you watch and where the bar will fit. In Sonos’s US comparison, the Ray is the lower-cost Dolby Digital option, while the Beam Ultra and Arc Ultra add Dolby Atmos support at higher listed prices. Those manufacturer specifications do not prove which one will sound best in your particular room.
Compare the three Sonos soundbars by what changes your decision
Sonos’s US storefront listed the following prices and specifications when checked for this article in 2026. Prices can change, and channel configurations and driver counts are manufacturer-listed specifications—not independent sound tests. Check Sonos’s current comparison before buying.

| Model | Sonos-listed configuration | Sonos-listed price (US, 2026) | What the distinction means for your choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ray | 3.0; Dolby Digital; four drivers | $219 | The least expensive of these three in the cited comparison. Sonos positions it for everyday or background viewing; it does not support Dolby Atmos. |
| Beam Ultra | 7.1.2; Dolby Atmos; nine drivers | $699 | The middle-priced option in this comparison, with Atmos support. Check that your TV and source can pass the formats you want. |
| Arc Ultra | 9.1.4; Dolby Atmos; fourteen drivers | $1,099 | The highest-priced option in this comparison, with the largest listed configuration. Its specifications alone do not establish that it is best for every room. |
All figures in the table are Sonos storefront listings, not independent measurements of loudness, bass, dialogue clarity or room coverage. A larger advertised configuration is not a guarantee of a better fit for your layout.

Choose Ray if Atmos is not a requirement
If you want a straightforward soundbar for everyday TV and are comfortable with Dolby Digital rather than Dolby Atmos, the Ray is the lower-cost choice among these three. Sonos lists a digital optical connection requirement for Ray, so confirm that your TV has a compatible optical audio output before choosing it.
#1 Best Overall

- Experience a 3D surround sound effect with Dolby Atmos.
- Stream music, radio, podcasts, and audiobooks from all your favorite services when the TV is off.
- Control with the Sonos app, your TV remote, Apple AirPlay 2, and your voice.
- Effortless setup with only two cables and smart Trueplay tuning.
Consider Beam Ultra if you want Atmos without choosing the top-priced model
Beam Ultra is the middle-priced model in Sonos’s comparison and is listed as Dolby Atmos capable. It is a sensible candidate if Atmos matters to you, your television and source chain can deliver it, and the Arc Ultra’s higher price does not fit your budget. The listing does not establish a universal performance advantage in any particular room.
Consider Arc Ultra if its listed features and cost fit your priorities
Arc Ultra is the top-priced of the three in the cited US comparison. Sonos markets it for “serious cinephile viewing,” but that is promotional positioning, not independent evidence that it will sound better for every listener. Decide whether you value its larger advertised channel configuration enough to pay the difference, and check the bar’s dimensions and mounting options against your room before ordering.

Check your TV and audio sources before buying for Atmos
Atmos support on the soundbar is only one link in the chain. Sonos says Atmos-capable home theater products need an HDMI ARC or eARC connection to play Atmos. In its TV guidance, Sonos states: “Your Sonos home theater speaker must be connected to HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC to play any Dolby Atmos content.” Read Sonos’s TV requirements.

Lossless Dolby Atmos using Dolby TrueHD requires eARC, according to Sonos’s supported-format guidance. Your television’s audio processing, connected playback device, streaming service and the soundtrack of the specific program also affect the signal the bar receives. An Atmos-capable bar cannot turn a non-Atmos soundtrack or source signal into native Atmos.

- Experience clearer, more powerful sound than ever before possible by a small standalone soundbar.
- Dynamic sound that enhances the drama and creates a surprisingly wide soundstage.
- Zero-stress setup with only two cables and help from the Sonos app.
- Stream all your content from your favorite services over WiFi using the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and more.
- Look up your TV model’s manual. Confirm whether it has HDMI ARC or eARC and whether it supports audio passthrough for the formats you want.
- Check the whole playback chain. Confirm your source device, TV settings, service and chosen content support the intended audio format.
- Match the connection to the model. Sonos lists Ray as requiring digital optical output. For Atmos playback on compatible Sonos home theater products, use HDMI ARC or eARC as required by the TV and format.
- Verify the signal in use. Check the audio format shown in the Sonos app while playing suitable content; the soundbar’s Atmos capability by itself does not confirm that the current program is arriving in Atmos.
Sonos also says Arc, Arc SL, Arc Ultra, Beam and Amp require HDMI ARC for CEC or supported voice-assistant TV control. Using an optical adapter makes some functions, including CEC or voice control, unavailable. Check Sonos’s TV requirements page for the exact product and function before relying on those features.

The reviewed product information does not set universal room-size cutoffs for Ray, Beam Ultra or Arc Ultra. Driver counts are not a reliable substitute for considering the actual installation. Measure the TV width and the available shelf or wall space, note where people usually sit, and consider whether the room layout suits your intended placement. Check the exact product dimensions and mounting requirements on the current listing before purchasing.

- Enrich your entertainment experience with vibrant bass, crystal clear dialogue, and a panoramic soundstage.

If you may add a Sub or rear surround speakers later, treat those as a separate budget and compatibility decision. Sonos describes system expansion options, but confirm that each accessory works with the specific soundbar you select rather than assuming every combination is supported. Wall mounts are also listed by Sonos; check the mount’s compatibility with your chosen model.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Surround yourself in the story: Go deeper into every scene with spatial audio. Dolby Atmos and the upward-firing drivers work in concert to immerse you in a multidimensional soundstage. You’ll hear planes as if they’re flying overhead, sense footsteps moving across the room, and feel the music swell all around you.
- Feel the bass: Experience every rumble, roar, and beat you've been missing with clean, pulse-pounding bass. Sub 4 takes over the lowest frequencies so paired speakers are free to focus on midrange and high frequencies so everything sounds even clearer.
- Wonderfully wireless: Place Sub 4 anywhere in the room. It connects to the soundbar over WiFi, so you can create the setup that works best for your space.
- Perfectly tuned for the room: Using the microphones in your iOS device, Trueplay tuning technology analyzes the unique acoustics of your space and optimizes the EQ. So all your content sounds just the way it should.
- Breeze through setup: Simply plug in the power cable, connect your phone or tablet to WiFi, and open the Sonos app. It will guide you through connecting the soundbar to your TV and syncing your TV remote for streamlined control.
A quick decision path
- Your TV has optical output, Atmos is not important, and lower cost leads: Ray is the model to compare first.
- You want Atmos and want the middle-priced choice in Sonos’s listed range: check Beam Ultra, then verify ARC/eARC and source compatibility.
- You are considering the highest-priced option: compare Arc Ultra’s listed configuration, fit and optional expansion plans against its added cost; do not assume the price or channel count guarantees the best result in your room.
- You cannot confirm the connection or format: check your TV manual and Sonos’s compatibility guidance before ordering, especially if Atmos or TV-control features are essential.
