Perth Scorchers have signed Pakistan captain and fast-bowling all-rounder Fatima Sana on a one-year deal for Weber WBBL|12, with Sana available for the first eight games, according to Cricket Australia’s October 3, 2026 report. Perth is scheduled to open its campaign against Melbourne Renegades at the WACA Ground on October 31.
What the signing means for Perth
The reported first-eight-game window gives Perth an international all-rounder for the opening portion of its WBBL|12 campaign, rather than for the full season. Cricket Australia describes Sana as a right-arm bowler and No. 7 batter. The report does not specify why her availability is limited to eight matches.

Sana said she had watched the WBBL from Pakistan and was excited to join the competition. “To now wear the Scorchers colours, represent such a great club and walk out at the WACA Ground … while being cheered on by people back home, is incredibly special. This really is a dream come true.”
Perth general manager Kade Harvey called her “one of the most exciting young allrounders in world cricket” in the report.

Why Fatima Sana is a notable WBBL signing
If she takes the field for Perth, Sana would be only the second Pakistan player to appear in the WBBL, following Nida Dar, who played 11 matches for Sydney Thunder in WBBL|05, according to Cricket Australia. Sana has previously played six matches for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred; the report says she was the first Pakistan woman to feature in the ECB competition.
Cricket Australia says Sana debuted for Pakistan on the 2019 South Africa tour, won the ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award in 2021 and has led Pakistan permanently since the 2024 T20 World Cup. Pakistan Cricket Board material also described her as a fast-bowling all-rounder and named her to lead Pakistan in both ODI and T20I formats for its South Africa tour beginning in February 2026.

Sources and announcement status
The signing, reported contract length, availability window, schedule information and player statistics above are attributed to Cricket Australia’s report. The Perth Scorchers news index retrieved for this story did not display a Sana item; that alone does not establish that the club has not announced the signing elsewhere. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s January 14, 2026 squad release appeared in search results but could not be opened, so its captaincy and role details are attributed to the release rather than independently checked against its full text.
