For a broader response to low battery, use Power saving. Routines automate selected actions; they do not guarantee that every battery control can be automated on every Galaxy model.
How to create a battery-saving routine
- Open Settings > Modes and Routines and select the Routines tab.
- Tap to add a routine, then choose an If condition, such as a time or other situation that fits your use.
- Choose a Then action. Look for a brightness adjustment or shorter screen timeout, if available.
- Review the condition and action, then save the routine.
Samsung’s Modes and Routines guidance describes this If/Then setup. Its battery advice includes lowering brightness and reducing screen timeout, but does not establish that either is available as a routine action on every phone. Check the action list on your device before relying on the automation.

Which battery settings are worth changing?

Samsung’s battery guidance for Canada describes these battery features and notes that the information applies to devices sold in Canada; menus and settings may differ elsewhere. Power saving can restrict background apps from Wi-Fi and mobile data and can disable Always On Display. Samsung also describes adjustable CPU speed and brightness, but the exact controls depend on the device and software.
Can a Galaxy routine turn on Power saving automatically?
Possibly, but do not assume it can. Samsung documents routines as condition-and-action automations, but the reviewed guidance does not establish a universal list of battery actions supported by routines. Open the Then action picker on your Galaxy and check whether Power saving is listed. If it is not, use the phone’s Power saving control directly rather than building a routine around an unavailable action.

Where to find Modes and Routines on different Galaxy phones
Start with Settings > Modes and Routines. Samsung says availability can vary by device and software version. Its UK guidance places routines under Modes and Routines on Android 13 and 14, and describes Bixby Routines as the app for Android 11 and 12. Those version notes may be superseded by later updates, so search Settings for “Modes and Routines” or “Bixby Routines” if the path differs. Country, model and updates can change labels and menu locations.

Samsung’s cited guidance explains what these features restrict or prioritize, but does not give a measured battery-life gain for these routine settings. The result will depend on how you use the phone and which changes your model supports; no fixed percentage or extra runtime can be promised.
