PSSR is available only on PS5 Pro, and each game must support it individually. A PS5 Pro Enhanced badge does not prove a game uses PSSR. To confirm support, install the latest system and game updates, then look for an explicit PSSR mention in the game’s official update notes or a PlayStation or developer announcement.
What PSSR does—and what support means
PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) is Sony’s image-upscaling technology for PS5 Pro. Sony describes it as an AI library that analyzes game images frame by frame as it upscales them. Its upgraded version is intended to improve reconstruction precision, stability during motion, and clarity in fine detail; Sony cautions that results vary by title. Sony’s February 27, 2026 explanation describes PSSR and its reported adoption.

Support is specific to the game, not automatic across the console. Sony’s optional Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting can apply the upgraded version to PS5 Pro games that already support PSSR. It does not add PSSR to an unsupported game. If the setting causes unexpected visual effects in a particular title, Sony says it can be turned off. Sony’s March 16, 2026 system-update announcement explains the option.

How to check for system and game updates
- Check PS5 Pro system software. Open the console’s system settings and check for a system software update. Sony said the March 2026 update would roll out in phases and could also be checked for and installed manually through PS5 system settings. Menu wording can vary with software version; use the update option shown in your console’s settings. See Sony’s update announcement.
- Install the game’s latest update. PSSR support may arrive in a title-specific patch, so an up-to-date console alone may not be enough.
- Look for an explicit PSSR statement. Check the game’s official update notes, PlayStation announcement, or developer communication. A reference to PS5 Pro enhancements alone does not establish PSSR support.
- Use the optional setting only for a supported game. On PS5 Pro, look in system settings for Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Its availability does not turn PSSR on in games that lack support. If it causes unexpected visual effects in a title, turn it off.
Does PS5 Pro Enhanced mean a game supports PSSR?
No. The PS5 Pro Enhanced badge indicates that a game has PS5 Pro enhancements, which vary by title; it is not proof that PSSR is among them. Confirm PSSR through a game-specific patch note or an explicit PlayStation or developer announcement. PlayStation’s PS5 Pro overview.

How to compare PSSR in supported games
Sony has not published a universal outcome or cross-game benchmark establishing how PSSR performs in every title. For a practical comparison, use each game’s current version and graphics mode, then assess image clarity, stability in motion, performance behavior, and any unexpected artifacts. Treat that as a player’s comparison framework, not a controlled test or a Sony-prescribed benchmark; one game’s results should not be generalized to another.
