To find accessories that fit your printer, identify its full model number and check the manufacturer’s official supplies or parts listing for that exact model and your region. Match the listed cartridge or accessory number before you buy; a brand name or printer family alone is not enough to confirm compatibility.
Find your printer’s full model number
Check the label or front panel on the printer, its user manual, or—on some Epson printers—the inside of the ink-cartridge compartment. Record the complete model name and number, including any letters or suffixes. Similar-looking models can use different supplies or accessories.

Look up each item against that model
Open the manufacturer’s support, supplies, or parts finder and search for the exact model. Check the item’s listed part or supply number, not just its description. Brother’s USA catalog, for example, accepts a machine model number or supply number and instructs customers to enter it without the hyphen: Brother supplies catalog. HP provides model-to-cartridge guidance and model-specific parts pages; Epson directs customers to its support information to identify supplies.

Use the cartridge number listed for your precise printer model. Check the market or region in which the printer will be used: HP notes that the cartridge number associated with a printer can vary by market. If the listing offers standard and XL options, establish that both numbers fit your model before comparing capacity. HP says XL cartridges generally print more pages than standard cartridges. Its support page gives HP 940 Black as a 1,000-page example and HP 940XL Black as a 2,200-page example; these are manufacturer-stated figures for those cartridges, not a general yield guarantee. Drums, maintenance items, and other supplies
Some printers use separate drums or maintenance products in addition to ink or toner. Brother’s catalog includes drums, paper, maintenance products, and replacement printing supplies. Check each item separately in the lookup for your exact model rather than assuming that a supply fitting one machine in a product family fits the others.
Paper trays and feeders
Optional add-ons such as paper trays and feeders are model-specific parts. For example, HP’s parts information lists optional 550-sheet feeders for particular supported models—not for every HP printer. Confirm that the precise printer model appears on the part’s compatibility listing and consider whether the feeder fits the printer’s current configuration. See HP Parts Store.

Cables and wireless accessories
Do not rely on an old accessory list to choose a cable or adapter for a current printer. Check the printer’s current manual and available ports, then confirm that the accessory supports the connection your printer actually offers. The model-specific supplies and parts listings are the safer guide for replaceable parts and add-ons.

Check third-party cartridge claims carefully
A cartridge advertised as fitting a brand or series is not necessarily confirmed for your exact model or regional version. Verify its number against the manufacturer’s compatibility information. HP says it cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges and describes dynamic security on some printers. HP also states that damage attributable to non-HP cartridges is not covered by its limited warranty or support contract. A quick compatibility check before ordering
- Identify the full model. Read it from the printer or its manual, preserving letters and suffixes.
- Use the manufacturer’s lookup. Search by the exact model in the official supplies or parts finder.
- Match the item number. Confirm the listed cartridge, drum, maintenance item, tray, or feeder number—not merely the brand or series.
- Confirm the region. Use the listing for the market where the printer will operate, especially for cartridges.
- Compare options after fit is established. For cartridges, compare standard and high-yield versions and their manufacturer-stated yields. For add-ons, check function and model fit.
- Recheck the listing before purchase. Make sure the selected item number and model match the manufacturer’s compatibility information.
Without the printer’s exact model and region, there is no universal accessory number to recommend. The manufacturer’s listing for that combination is the practical source of a fit determination.
