Which Pokémon Are Strongest? A Lore-and-Gameplay Top 10

There is no official universal ranking of Pokémon strength. This lore-informed top 10 separates story-scale judgment from game mechanics and Scarlet/Violet base stats.

There is no official, universal top 10 of the strongest Pokémon. This editorial ranking uses established Pokémon, weighs story-scale power first, and uses documented game mechanics and Scarlet/Violet base-stat totals as supporting evidence—not as proof that one Pokémon would always defeat another.

What “strongest” means in this ranking

Pokémon Support’s January 30, 2026 guidance says that video-game strength “depends a lot on how you train your Pokémon” and on the challenge. It also treats the Pokémon Trading Card Game as a different question, where measures such as HP and damage matter. Those contexts cannot be collapsed into one definitive ranking.

The list below is therefore a lore-informed editorial ordering, not an official Pokémon ranking, a competitive tier list, or a prediction of the winner of every matchup. Story scale guides placement; documented mechanics and base stats help describe each candidate. The available evidence does not establish a complete, source-backed ordering of ten Pokémon by lore feats, so close placements should be read as judgment rather than canon.

For a consistent stat comparison, the listed totals are from Serebii.net’s Scarlet/Violet table, accessed in 2026. A base-stat total describes one game metric; it does not measure narrative power, team fit, matchup advantage, or performance under every game’s rules.

Top 10 strongest Pokémon: an editorial ranking

  1. Arceus

Arceus ranks first as the central mythic figure in this kind of lore-informed list. Its Scarlet/Violet base-stat total is 720, the highest among the four named totals in the cited table. That number supports its place as a formidable game-stat candidate, but does not by itself establish a lore-based victory over every other Pokémon.

  2. Rayquaza

Rayquaza is a legendary Pokémon with an established place among the franchise’s most powerful figures. Its cited Scarlet/Violet base-stat total is 680. The total is lower than Arceus’s and Zacian’s in that table, but a single stat sum cannot settle their relative story scale or the outcome of a particular battle.

  3. Eternatus

Eternatus is a legendary candidate whose game identity is closely tied to the Dynamax phenomenon. Its Scarlet/Violet base-stat total is 690, higher than Rayquaza’s in the cited table. That comparison is limited to the named game’s base-stat figures; it is not a universal measure of power across forms, stories, or rulesets.

  4. Zacian

Zacian’s official Sword and Shield profile identifies it as Fairy/Steel and gives it the ability Intrepid Sword, which boosts its Attack on entry. The profile also says Behemoth Blade deals twice its regular damage against a Dynamaxed opponent in those games. Its cited Scarlet/Violet base-stat total is 700. The Dynamax interaction is specifically a Sword and Shield mechanic, not a rule that applies in every title or format.

  5. Dialga

Dialga belongs in a lore-informed discussion because it is presented as a legendary Pokémon associated with time. That narrative premise makes it a strong candidate, but the evidence cited here does not provide a directly comparable feat or stat total for placing it precisely against the other entries. Its position is an editorial judgment, not an official rank.

  6. Palkia

Palkia is another major legendary candidate, associated in Pokémon’s lore with space. Its story-scale concept gives it a place near the top of a lore-oriented list, but the cited evidence does not quantify its power against Dialga, Arceus, or the other candidates. This placement should not be mistaken for a canonical matchup result.

  7. Giratina

Giratina’s status as a major legendary figure makes it a reasonable top-ten inclusion in a ranking that values lore as well as battle mechanics. The sources cited for this article do not establish a measured comparison that would fix its position relative to Dialga or Palkia, so the ordering reflects editorial judgment rather than a settled hierarchy.

  8. Kyogre

Kyogre is a powerful legendary Pokémon often considered in discussions of large-scale Pokémon power. The evidence cited here does not supply a specific, comparable narrative feat or a base-stat total for it, so its placement is necessarily less firmly supported than the entries with named figures or official mechanics in this list.

  9. Groudon

Groudon is another legendary candidate for a lore-and-gameplay ranking. As with Kyogre, the cited sources do not provide a directly comparable feat or numeric stat total to establish its exact position. Its inclusion is an informed editorial choice, not a claim that official material ranks it below Kyogre.

  10. Mewtwo

Mewtwo rounds out this editorial list as a prominent legendary Pokémon with a formidable reputation across Pokémon media. The evidence cited here does not provide a source-backed comparison that fixes its rank against the other nine. A competitive ranking would need a named generation and ruleset; a lore-first ranking would need directly comparable story evidence.

Why this is not a definitive or competitive ranking

Base stats answer only one question

In the cited Scarlet/Violet table, the established totals supplied for this comparison are Arceus at 720, Zacian at 700, Eternatus at 690, and Rayquaza at 680. These figures do not prove that Arceus would defeat Zacian, or that Rayquaza is weaker in every practical battle. Moves, abilities, form, team, opponent, and ruleset all affect outcomes.

Game mechanics are version-specific

Zacian’s Intrepid Sword and Behemoth Blade details come from its official Sword and Shield profile. In particular, Behemoth Blade’s doubled damage is tied to the opponent having Dynamaxed. That interaction cannot be generalized to games or formats without Dynamax.

Competitive strength needs a named format

A competitive “strongest” list must identify the game generation and ruleset, including which Pokémon, forms, and mechanics are allowed. This ranking is not a current competitive tier list; the evidence here does not support one.

Card-game strength is a separate comparison

Pokémon Support distinguishes the video game from the card game, where HP and damage are relevant measures. A card-by-card ranking would need to specify a set, format, and evaluation criteria; those results should not be mixed with lore or video-game base stats.

How to check a Pokémon’s official profile and stats

The official Pokédex lets readers search Pokémon by attributes including type, weakness, ability, height, and weight. Its listing reaches National Pokédex number 1025 and includes entries such as Rayquaza and Arceus. For Zacian’s Sword and Shield ability and move details, consult its official profile. For the Scarlet/Violet totals cited above, see Serebii.net’s Scarlet/Violet Pokémon table.
