On a Pixel, the main lock-screen controls let you choose whether notifications appear, how much detail they show, and which shortcuts sit at the bottom of the screen. Start at Wallpaper & style > Lock screen; swipe up to see the settings. Labels and options can differ by device and Android version.
Where to find Pixel lock-screen settings
- Touch and hold an empty area of the home screen.
- Tap Wallpaper & style, then swipe to Lock screen.
- Swipe up to open the lock-screen settings.

Choose what notifications reveal
Tap Notifications on lock screen to control lock-screen notification visibility and layout. Google’s documented options include:

- Turn lock-screen notifications on or off.
- Choose Compact View or Full list.
- Show or hide viewed notification icons.
- Show or hide silent notifications.
- Show or hide sensitive content, such as message details.
To hide message previews while keeping notifications visible, turn off sensitive content rather than disabling all lock-screen notifications. Google also documents a route to that control through Settings > Notifications > Privacy > Notifications on lock screen. Some apps can be set individually not to show notifications on the lock screen. Adjust notifications for individual apps
App notification preferences are separate from the general lock-screen controls. Go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications, choose an app, and adjust its notifications. Some apps provide notification categories, so you may be able to turn off promotions but keep delivery updates. Apps that support Live updates can show ongoing information such as a ride’s location or food-delivery timing on the lock screen. See Google’s app notification help.

- Open Wallpaper & style > Lock screen and swipe up.
- Tap Shortcuts, then choose Left shortcut or Right shortcut.
- Select an available option and tap Apply.
Google lists these eight options: Do not disturb, Home, QR code scanner, Wallet, Camera, Flashlight, Mute, and Video camera. Choose based on what you need to reach quickly; the available choices are those shown on your device. See Google’s shortcut instructions.

Lockdown is a temporary security action, not a permanent notification preference. Press Power + Volume up together, then tap Lockdown. It turns off lock-screen notifications, fingerprint or face recognition unlocking, and Extend Unlock until the phone is unlocked again. Google’s instructions are on its security and privacy help page.

More lock-screen settings
Under More lock screen settings, Google lists Add text on lock screen, Use device controls, Dynamic clock, and Now Playing. Tap to check phone, Lift to check phone, and Wake screen for notifications change when the screen wakes or becomes visible. Clock style, color, width, and size controls are documented for Android 16 and higher. Availability depends on device and software version. See Google’s lock-screen customization help.
At a Glance and personal information
At a Glance can display events and tasks, weather, tickets, and commute or transit information on the lock screen and Always-on Display. Google says it is on by default; turning it off removes its cards, while the date remains. You can manage individual content types in At a Glance settings and use a separate sensitive-content control for At a Glance lock-screen content. Availability can vary by country and language. Wallpaper on Always-on Display
Google documents the option to show lock-screen wallpaper on Always-on Display only for Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. It is not a general setting for every Pixel. See Google’s lock-screen customization help.
