Start by checking the picture mode: Roku says its Pro OLED TVs ship in Low Power mode on every input. If the picture looks too dim, Roku recommends switching to Roku Smart Picture Max. For a film-like image, begin with Movie for SDR in a darker room, or Dark for HDR10 and Dolby Vision; choose a brighter option when your room or preference calls for it. These are Roku’s mode descriptions and practical starting points, not calibrated settings for every room.
Confirm which Roku TV you have
Roku’s 2026 product information identifies the OLED line as the Pro OLED Series, with 55- and 65-inch models, a 4K self-lit OLED panel, 120 Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision. It is separate from Roku’s Pro Mini-LED QLED Series, so do not assume their picture controls or advice are interchangeable. Find your model number at Settings > System > About. Some televisions made by other manufacturers also run Roku OS; for those sets, consult the manufacturer’s guidance. Roku’s OLED FAQ and Roku’s product information describe the line.

Why does my Roku OLED TV picture look dimmer?
Roku Support’s answer is: “This is normal and intentional.” Low Power is the factory picture mode on Roku OLED TVs across streaming, Live TV, and HDMI inputs. Roku says this default is intended to help protect the OLED display. If you want a brighter picture, choose Roku Smart Picture Max instead. Roku’s FAQ does not specify a numeric brightness level or say every owner should change modes. Roku Support’s OLED FAQ gives the explanation and recommendation.

How to change picture settings
- Start a show or movie, or select a physical input, then press the Star button on the remote to open picture controls. Roku says an active video stream or physical input is required for expert controls.
- Open Picture settings and select Customize Picture Mode. If the screen seems too dim, choose Roku Smart Picture Max.
- Choose a picture mode that fits the source and room using the guidance below. HDR10 and Dolby Vision have format-specific choices, so make the selection while that format is playing.
- If a change makes the picture worse, use Picture settings > Customize picture > Reset Settings to reset the selected mode. Some controls may offer an apply-to-all-inputs option; check the on-screen choices instead of assuming settings carry across every input.
For expert controls, Roku’s documented route is Picture settings > Customize Picture Mode > Expert Settings. Labels and availability can vary by model, input, HDR signal, and Roku OS version. See Roku’s expert picture settings guide for its menu instructions.

Which picture mode should you choose?
Use these choices as starting points, not as evidence that one mode is objectively best. Roku’s general picture-mode descriptions appear in its English-language Australia support guide; regional menus and software can differ. Roku’s picture-mode guide describes the modes as follows:
| Source and situation | Starting mode | Why choose it |
|---|---|---|
| SDR film in a darker room | Movie | Roku describes Movie as suited to darker-room viewing. |
| Everyday SDR viewing in a moderate or bright room | Standard | Roku positions Standard for everyday viewing in moderate-to-bright rooms. |
| SDR viewing in a very bright room | Vivid | Roku describes Vivid as intended for rooms with a lot of light. |
| Sports | Sports | A content-oriented option for sports viewing. |
| HDR10 or Dolby Vision, cinema-like balance | Dark | Roku describes Dark as closest to a cinema experience. |
| HDR10 or Dolby Vision, brighter image | Normal | Roku says Normal provides a brighter image with somewhat boosted colors. |
| HDR10 or Dolby Vision, much brighter and more vivid image | Bright | Roku describes Bright as vivid, with much brighter colors. |
HDR10 and Dolby Vision mode choices are tied to the active format. When HDR playback ends, Roku says the TV returns to its previously selected picture mode.

Which individual picture controls are worth changing?
Roku’s general guide explains the basic controls this way. Their availability depends on the TV model, and Roku does not publish universal numeric values as an optimum for the 2026 Pro OLED.
- Brightness: changes how dark black areas appear.
- Contrast: changes the intensity of white areas.
- Sharpness: changes edge sharpness.
- Color: changes color intensity.
- Tint: adjusts the balance between red and green.
Make changes only when you can identify what you want to correct, and judge them on the kind of content you actually watch. Copying a numeric setting from another TV is not a reliable shortcut: Roku’s documentation does not establish one model-specific calibration for every Pro OLED.

Should you adjust Expert Picture Settings?
Depending on the TV, Expert Picture Settings may include gamma, noise reduction, color temperature, 11-point white balance, color space, local dimming, action smoothing, or LED action clarity. Roku presents this menu for enthusiasts and professional calibrators; the list is not confirmation that every control appears on the OLED model. In particular, do not assume LCD-oriented processing controls are available on this OLED TV.
Leave measured calibration controls such as white balance and color space alone unless you have suitable equipment and know how to use it. Roku recommends a colorimeter for custom white-balance and color-space adjustments. Its expert settings guide explains the controls and the advanced menu path.

OLED care while choosing a picture mode
Roku warns that a still image left on screen for long periods can cause burn-in. Its practical guidance is to vary what you watch, avoid leaving paused content up for hours, and reduce brightness during prolonged viewing of fixed channel logos or game overlays. Roku says a few minutes on the home screen is fine.

After power-off, the screen may remain black for about 5–6 minutes while a short refresh runs. Roku also says the TV may show a “screen needs refreshing” prompt and sometimes run a longer refresh. Allow the refresh to finish; do not unplug the TV during it. These OLED-care details are in Roku’s OLED FAQ.

What Roku’s guidance does—and does not—establish
Roku’s descriptions help you choose among modes based on room brightness, source format, and whether you prefer a cinema-like or more vivid image. They do not provide an instrumented comparison of picture modes on the Pro OLED or universal numeric calibration settings for that model. The guidance here reflects Roku documentation available on October 7, 2026; menus can vary by model, input, HDR signal, Roku OS version, and region.
