Bitwarden, 1Password, Dashlane, and NordPass all document passkey support, but none is a universal best choice for every site, device, or migration plan. Compare how each handles the platforms you use, syncing and sharing, and—especially—getting passkeys out if you later switch. The official product guidance confirms feature availability, not a standardized head-to-head test.
What to compare before choosing
A passkey is a FIDO credential that can let you sign in without typing a password. Some passkeys sync through a password manager; others are tied to a particular device. A physical security key is a separate option, not a requirement for using passkeys.

Compatibility depends on the website or app, browser, operating system, and credential provider working together. Some services show a clear passkey button; others offer passkeys only within a multi-step sign-in flow. A study of passkey implementations notes that variation makes broad compatibility measurement difficult: the paper abstract. Check the services you actually use rather than assuming that a manager’s passkey feature works everywhere.

- Platforms and workflow: Can you create and use passkeys in the browsers, apps, and operating systems you use?
- Sync and sharing: Does the manager sync credentials across your devices, and can you share them when needed?
- Migration: Can you export passkeys, or will you need to replace them site by site?
- Plan limits: Check current free and paid plan terms for your region before subscribing.
How the four managers handle passkeys
| Manager | Documented passkey workflow | Sync and sharing | Migration |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1Password | Can create and use passkeys in desktop browsers and on iOS/iPadOS 17. Its product page lists viewing, managing, and sharing on Mac, iOS, Windows, and Android. Product details | Sync and sharing are documented features. Product details | Passkey export is currently available only in the iOS and Android apps. For desktop data export, its support guidance says to create replacement passkeys at each site and save them elsewhere. Export guidance |
| Bitwarden | Passkeys are stored in the vault and can be used on websites and apps through its browser extension and mobile app. iOS requires version 17 or newer; Android requires version 14 or newer. Platform and use details | Vault passkeys sync. Sharing is not established in the cited passkey guidance. Passkey guidance | Its documentation covers JSON export and mobile FIDO Credential Exchange Protocol support on iOS 26+ and Android 14+, when both apps support the protocol. Export and exchange details |
| Dashlane | Users can save, use, and delete passkeys wherever they use Dashlane. The vendor warns that support varies by website, app, browser, and device. Support guidance, updated September 11, 2026 | Dashlane says passkeys sync across devices. Sharing is not established in the cited guidance. Support guidance | Import and export behavior is not stated in the cited guidance. Support guidance |
| NordPass | Its FAQ explains creating and using passkeys for sign-in or, depending on the service, as two-factor authentication. Passkey FAQ | Sync and sharing details are not stated in the cited FAQ. Passkey FAQ | NordPass says it has no option to import or export passkeys to password managers. Passkey FAQ |
Which one fits your situation?
Choose based on where you use passkeys
Start with your everyday devices and browsers, then confirm support for the sites that matter. Bitwarden specifies minimum mobile operating-system versions, while Dashlane explicitly cautions that site and device availability varies. 1Password’s documentation distinguishes where passkeys can be created and used from where they can be viewed and managed. Those details make platform fit more useful than a simple “supports passkeys” label.
#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Prioritize an exit plan if you may switch
Migration options are meaningfully different. 1Password documents mobile-app passkey export but directs desktop users to replace passkeys site by site when exporting desktop data. Bitwarden documents JSON export and mobile credential exchange under specified app and OS conditions. NordPass says passkey import and export are unavailable. Dashlane’s cited passkey guidance does not establish an export path. If you choose a manager with limited export, retain each service’s recovery options and plan to enroll a replacement passkey before removing the old one.
Check plan details separately
Passkey support alone does not establish which manager is best value. Tom’s Guide’s October 2, 2026 review recommends 1Password overall and reports that it has no free version; its NordPass coverage reports a free tier limited to one active device at a time. Those are review-reported plan details, not a controlled passkey comparison, and plan terms can change. Verify current availability and limits for your location on the provider’s own site before deciding. Tom’s Guide review

What to know about compatibility and account recovery
Passkeys can be used as a primary sign-in method or, on some sites and apps, as a second factor. The service determines which flows it supports; a manager cannot add passkey support to a site that does not offer it.
Bitwarden notes a limitation for using passkeys as two-factor authentication with third-party passkey providers on Android. If that workflow matters, check the current platform guidance and test the service’s sign-in and recovery flow before relying on it. Bitwarden platform guidance

NordPass also warns against relying solely on a NordPass-stored Google passkey to access NordPass when Google is the authentication method used to enter a Nord Account. Keep an independent way to regain access to both the manager and important online accounts. NordPass passkey FAQ

A FIDO2 security key can be an optional physical authentication factor, but it is not necessary for every passkey workflow. Whether a key works depends on the service and device; confirm compatibility before buying. 1Password security-key guidance
Quick Recap

- DEVICE & OS COMPATIBILITY: Compatible with Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux. Works seamlessly with supported services like Google and Microsoft accounts, and major password managers. See the full compatibility list at "Works With YubiKey"
- DURABLE & RELIABLE: Resistant to tampering, water, and crushing. No batteries or network connectivity required, offering dependable authentication without any downtime. Securely manufactured in USA & Sweden
- Yubico Authenticator App - Fingerprint enrollment, passkey management and PIN configuration available via the app app - Upgrade to YubiKey 5 Series to generate one-time-passwords (OTP) via Yubico Authenticator and for advanced compatibility (OATH, PIV)
How to make the choice
- List your must-use sites and devices. Check passkey support in the relevant service, browser, operating system, and app combination.
- Match the documented workflow to your devices. Pay attention to platform-specific requirements and whether you can create, use, manage, or share credentials where you need them.
- Decide how important portability is. Compare the export and exchange paths above, and make a site-by-site replacement plan if your preferred manager does not offer an export route.
- Verify current plan terms. Confirm the free-tier limits, paid features, and regional availability directly with the provider.
- Keep account recovery independent. Save recovery methods for the password manager and key services, and avoid relying on a single passkey for access to the manager that stores it.
