You need a Galaxy model that supports wireless DeX and a display that supports Miracast or is a compatible Samsung TV or Smart Monitor. The Galaxy remains usable while DeX runs on the external display.
Does your Galaxy and display support wireless DeX?
Check both devices before trying to connect. Samsung’s US compatibility list, accessed October 7, 2026, includes wireless TV and monitor DeX support for Galaxy S9 series through S26; Note9, Note10 and Note20 series; Fold and Z Fold families; Z Flip7 and Z TriFold; A90 5G; and several tablets through Tab S11, Tab A11+ and Tab Active3. The list excludes previous Z Flip models, Z Flip7 FE, Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE series from wireless external-display DeX. This is a region-specific, changing list, not a guarantee for every regional variant or software version. Check Samsung’s current DeX compatibility list for your exact model.

The display must be a 2018-or-newer Samsung TV, a Samsung Smart Monitor, or another display or receiver that supports Miracast screen mirroring. Some 2018 Samsung TVs may work better with an HDMI cable. Samsung also notes that display screens and setting names can vary by service provider and software version.

How do I connect Samsung DeX wirelessly to my TV?
- Make the display ready. Turn on the TV or monitor and enable its screen-mirroring or Miracast mode if its menus require it.
- Open DeX on the Galaxy. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen, or swipe down with two fingers, to open Quick Settings. Tap DeX.
- Choose the display. Select your TV or monitor from the available devices, then tap Start now.
- Approve the connection. Accept a permission or connection prompt on the display if one appears.
If Quick Settings does not show DeX, Samsung’s current S26-oriented instructions give this route: Settings > Connections (make sure Bluetooth is on) > Connected devices > Samsung DeX > Connect wirelessly. Choose the display, tap Start now, and approve the connection on the display if asked. Labels differ across One UI versions, so use the closest matching options on your device. What’s different from screen mirroring?
Screen mirroring duplicates the phone’s screen. DeX instead presents a desktop-style interface on the external display while leaving the Galaxy available for separate use. Samsung for Business Insights puts it this way: “With DeX, your second display functions independently.” Samsung for Business Insights, published April 15, 2026.
Can I use DeX without a keyboard and mouse?
Yes. A keyboard and mouse are optional: use the Galaxy as a touchpad from its notification or the touchpad icon. If you prefer conventional controls, pair Bluetooth keyboard and mouse devices under Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. USB peripherals may also work where supported; some setups require an OTG adapter. Wireless DeX does not itself require a dock or external input devices.

Why is my TV not showing up in Samsung DeX?
- Check model support. Confirm that the exact Galaxy model and software version support wireless DeX in Samsung’s compatibility list.
- Check the display’s standard. The display needs Miracast, unless it is a supported Samsung TV or Smart Monitor. A display that supports another casting system is not necessarily Miracast-compatible.
- Make the display discoverable. Turn it on and open its screen-mirroring or Miracast mode if required.
- Try the Settings route. On interfaces where Quick Settings is unclear, look under Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX > Connect wirelessly; some current Samsung instructions first direct users to Settings > Connections and Bluetooth.
Why is wireless DeX lagging?
Keep the Galaxy and display a short distance apart; Samsung recommends proximity to help prevent stutter and lag. Samsung also notes that a remote-access connection to a Samsung TV may behave poorly when the Galaxy screen is off. Turn the phone or tablet screen on and reconnect. Samsung does not publish a universal distance or latency figure for this setup, so results depend on the devices and connection conditions.

Wireless DeX or wired HDMI: which route fits?

For a non-Miracast display, Samsung documents a compatible HDMI cable or USB-C-to-HDMI adapter as a wired alternative on supported Galaxy devices. That is wired DeX, not wireless DeX. Verify video-output support and Samsung’s cable guidance for your model before choosing an adapter.
How do I exit DeX?
On the DeX display, open the Apps menu and choose Exit DeX.

Does DeX for PC affect wireless DeX on a TV?
No. Samsung says DeX for PC is no longer supported on Galaxy models released with or updated to One UI 7 or later, and points to Link to Windows for selected PC functions. That change concerns connecting DeX to a PC; it does not mean wireless DeX to a compatible Miracast TV or monitor has ended.
