The right outdoor security camera depends on what you need to illuminate and how the location is powered. For a wide driveway or yard, compare fixed floodlight cameras; for a porch or side entrance, a spotlight may be enough. Color night vision on the models below relies on visible light, so it should not be read as a promise of color footage in complete darkness.
Choose the light for the area you need to cover
Spotlights for a doorway or side path
A spotlight concentrates light on a smaller, nearby area. Reolink describes this type of beam as suited to places such as a porch or side entrance. Placement matters: aim it at the approach you want to see, while avoiding direct glare into the camera lens or a neighbor’s property.

Floodlights for a driveway or yard
A floodlight spreads illumination across a broader area. Reolink describes it as a better fit for larger spaces such as a driveway, backyard or parking area. Its UK comparison lists up to 3,000 lumens for selected wired models and up to 1,000 lumens for the listed solar model; these are manufacturer figures tied to specific models and a UK listing, not a guarantee of usable visibility at every distance or mounting angle. See Reolink’s UK camera listings.

Distance, beam direction, obstructions, reflective surfaces and ambient light all affect what the camera captures. How color night vision differs from infrared
Color night vision needs visible illumination when the scene is dark. Some cameras use a built-in spotlight or floodlight, often activated by motion, to make color footage possible. Reolink’s Duo Floodlight WiFi, for example, lists color night vision alongside built-in floodlights and motion-activated lighting. Check the Duo Floodlight WiFi’s listed features.
Traditional infrared night vision can work without visible light, but typically produces monochrome footage. That may suit a location where you want to avoid turning on a visible light; it is a different trade-off from illuminating the scene for color. The product pages reviewed do not establish a controlled, cross-brand comparison of infrared image quality.

Compare camera options by their stated features
| Camera | Manufacturer-listed features | Potential fit | What the listing does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reolink Duo Floodlight WiFi | Dual-lens 4K video, 180° ultra-wide view, built-in floodlights, motion-activated lighting, color night vision, and smart detection for people, vehicles and animals. | A fixed installation where broad coverage and integrated visible lighting are priorities. | The 180° figure is the manufacturer’s stated view, not a guarantee of no blind spots at every mounting position. The listing is not a comparative night-vision test. |
| Ring Floodlight Cam Pro | 2K video, 3D Motion Detection and bright LED floodlights intended for larger outdoor spaces. | A fixed floodlight-camera installation where the listed detection feature is relevant. | The product page reviewed does not establish an exact lumen figure, storage price or current plan terms. |
| Arlo Wired Floodlight | Arlo’s catalog lists 2,000 lumens, 2K HDR recording and a 160° field of view. | A wired floodlight option for someone comparing stated light output, resolution and view. | These specifications are catalog claims; they do not establish real-world image quality or local availability. Arlo’s Pro 5S is a separate product, so its spotlight and color night vision should not be attributed to the Wired Floodlight. |

Fixed floodlight cameras generally make the most sense where suitable wiring is already available or can be installed. Battery or solar-powered models can avoid mains wiring, but introduce charging and sunlight considerations. Reolink’s UK page lists its Solar Floodlight Cam as battery plus solar; confirm the exact model, regional version and current power details before purchase. Review Reolink’s UK product listings.

Compare more than resolution and brightness
A useful shortlist considers the whole system rather than a single headline specification:
- Coverage: Compare field of view, intended mounting height and whether one camera can cover the area without leaving important approaches outside the frame.
- Lighting behavior: Check whether light is built in, motion-activated or manually controlled, and whether it is a focused spotlight or broad floodlight.
- Detection: Look at the detection capabilities listed for the exact model, but do not treat a feature label as proof of accuracy in your yard.
- Footage access: Verify current local and cloud storage options, subscription requirements and any plan terms on the exact model’s official page.
- Installation and environment: Confirm installation requirements, weather rating, smart-home compatibility and warranty for the local version.
Reolink’s support list includes multiple spotlight-equipped Wi-Fi models, among them Lumus, E1 Outdoor variants, several RLC models, Duo models and TrackMix WiFi. Treat that list as a starting point, not a substitute for checking each model’s lighting, power, resolution and availability. See Reolink’s spotlight compatibility list.

Which type should you shortlist?
- For a broad, fixed scene with integrated lighting: Consider the Reolink Duo Floodlight WiFi as an example of a dual-lens camera with a manufacturer-listed 180° view and built-in floodlights.
- For a fixed floodlight installation with 3D Motion Detection listed: Compare the Ring Floodlight Cam Pro’s stated features and verify current storage and plan terms for your location.
- For a wired model with a published lumen figure: The Arlo Wired Floodlight catalog lists 2,000 lumens, 2K HDR and a 160° view; confirm regional availability and exact product details.
- For a small entry or path: Consider a spotlight camera if a broad floodlight would be excessive, and check the exact model’s power and night-vision features.
These are use-case matches based on official product descriptions, not a ranked test. Advertised resolution, field of view and light output do not by themselves prove better identification or detection in a particular property.
