Which Nexcess Alternatives Should You Compare for Managed WordPress?

If you’re considering a move from Nexcess, compare hosts against your site’s actual needs—not a universal ranking. Managed WordPress plans package support, security, backups, caching, and resources differently, so a low starting price or a provider’s own performance claims do not establish which host will suit your site best.

Ten providers to consider

The options below are candidates for comparison, not a performance ranking. Current plan specifications are available here for five; for the others, confirm the live product lineup and terms directly before deciding.

  1. WP Engine: Its US page lists Essential from $30 per month. The plan page describes a global CDN, managed WordPress, PHP and MySQL updates, 24/7 WordPress technical expertise, threat defense, a migration plugin, and local development tools. Confirm site limits, traffic assumptions, and billing terms before comparing its starting price.
  2. Kinsta: Its page lists a single-site plan at $35 per month after a first-month offer, with 10 GB of storage and 14-day backup retention. It also lists migrations, managed WAF and DDoS protection, CDN and edge caching, support, and an APM tool. These are provider-published details, and the price is a page snapshot.
  3. Pressable: Signature 1 is listed at $20.83 per month when billed annually, for one WordPress install and up to 30,000 visits. Its page describes autoscaling, backups, edge cache, migration, and 24/7 support.
  4. Rocket.net: A candidate named in a 2026 comparison. The available information does not establish a current plan specification or independently comparable performance result.
  5. SiteGround: Its page lists StartUp at $2.99 per month for a prepaid 12-month term, renewing at $17.99 per month. Listed features include migration, SSL, CDN, backups, caching, and managed updates. Consider the renewal price as well as the introductory offer.
  6. Cloudways: Its managed-hosting page organizes DigitalOcean-backed tiers by RAM, CPU, storage, and bandwidth, with an entry tier shown at $11 per month on the reviewed page. This resource-based model is not directly equivalent to a plan priced around visits or WordPress installs.
  7. Flywheel: A candidate named in the 2026 comparison. Verify the current product and plan details before comparing it with other hosts.
  8. DreamPress: A candidate named in the 2026 comparison. Verify the current product and plan details before comparing it with other hosts.
  9. WordPress.com: A candidate named in the 2026 comparison. Confirm which current plan and included services fit your intended WordPress setup.
  10. Pagely: A candidate named in the 2026 comparison. Verify its current product lineup and plan details before comparing it with other hosts.

The 2026 comparison is editorial, not an independent speed or reliability benchmark. Plan features and prices above are provider-published claims or page snapshots, not the results of equivalent hands-on testing.

Why managed WordPress plans are hard to compare

“Managed WordPress” describes a bundle of services, not a standardized specification. WP Engine defines it as “a hosting environment specifically optimized for WordPress sites”; that is the provider’s description, not an independent industry standard. Across providers, the bundle may differ in support, updates, security, caching, backups, migration assistance, and resource limits.

Pricing models differ, too. Some plans are framed around installs and visits; others expose server resources such as RAM, CPU, storage, and bandwidth. A monthly starting figure alone cannot tell you how a host will handle your number of sites, traffic peaks, or resource use.

Compare plans using your site’s requirements

Count sites and estimate traffic

  • For several sites, check the included install or site count and calculate the cost for the total you need.
  • For a high-traffic site, compare visit assumptions, bandwidth, and what the plan says happens during traffic peaks.
  • For a store or another dynamic site, ask how resource limits and caching apply to uncached requests.

Check storage, backups, and recovery

Compare included storage, backup frequency, and retention—not just whether a provider advertises backups. Confirm how you would restore a site and whether the backup arrangement meets your recovery needs.

Verify migration, staging, and support

Ask what migration assistance covers, whether staging is available on the plan, and which support channels and hours are included. A migration plugin, a listed migration feature, and hands-on migration assistance are not necessarily the same service.

Calculate the full price for your billing term

Compare the cost of the plan you actually need over the same period. Include the billing term, introductory period, renewal price, and any site or traffic limits that could require a higher tier. SiteGround’s listed introductory and renewal rates illustrate why checking only an entry offer can mislead.

How to narrow the shortlist

  1. Write down your site count, typical and peak traffic, storage use, and whether the site is dynamic or transaction-heavy.
  2. Set your requirements for backup retention, migration help, staging, and support availability.
  3. Choose the plan level each provider would require for that same scenario; do not compare one provider’s entry tier with another provider’s higher-capacity plan.
  4. Compare the full billing-term and renewal costs, along with visit, install, bandwidth, and resource limits.
  5. Before switching, confirm the migration scope and your recovery plan, then verify that the selected plan’s current terms still match your requirements.

No independently comparable performance test across these providers is established here. Treat rankings and provider claims accordingly, and base the decision on current plan terms and the needs of your own site.
