Several laptops earn higher performance ratings than the Snapdragon X Plus Galaxy Book4 Edge in Consumer Reports’ 2026 buying guide, but the evidence does not prove that five budget laptops are universally faster. The closest lower-cost matches are the Acer Swift 16 AI and Dell Inspiron Plus 16. Their listed prices and ratings are guide figures, not live prices or direct benchmark comparisons.
First, which Galaxy Book4 Edge are you comparing?
Galaxy Book4 Edge is a family, not a single fixed performance baseline. Samsung’s 2024 announcement describes a 15.6-inch model with an eight-core Snapdragon X Plus processor. Samsung’s current US product listing describes a 15.6-inch configuration with Snapdragon X X1-26-100, 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of eUFS storage, listed at $999.99 when accessed in 2026. PCWorld reviewed a different, 16-inch model equipped with the higher-tier Snapdragon X Elite X1E-84-100. A comparison against the X Plus configuration does not establish an advantage over that X Elite review unit.

For the 15.6-inch model, Samsung specifies a 1920 × 1080 display, 300 nits of brightness and a 60 Hz refresh rate. Those details help identify the machine, but they do not determine which laptop will be faster in a particular workload.
“More powerful” depends on whether you mean CPU-intensive work, graphics, long sustained workloads, or a particular application. The comparison below uses Consumer Reports’ performance category ratings as a way to identify alternatives—not as direct, controlled laptop benchmark results.

Which candidates rate higher than the Galaxy Book4 Edge?
Consumer Reports’ 2026 buying guide lists the Galaxy Book4 Edge Snapdragon X Plus entry at $750 with a performance rating of 30. The guide lists two alternatives below $900 with higher ratings. Its prices are guide values, not guaranteed current retailer prices; ratings are categories, not speed ratios.
| Model listed in the guide | Processor and configuration stated | Guide price | Performance rating | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge Copilot+ PC | Snapdragon X Plus; 16 GB memory; 512 GB storage | $750 | 30 | Reference entry for this comparison |
| Acer Swift 16 AI (SF16-51T-76TG) | Core Ultra 7 | $850 | 40 | Higher-rated alternative in the guide; no direct benchmark speed advantage established |
| Dell Inspiron Plus 16 (i7640-7059BLU-PUS) | Core Ultra 7; 32 GB memory | $800 | 50 | Higher-rated alternative in the guide; no direct benchmark speed advantage established |
| HP OMEN 16.1-inch Intel Core i7 gaming laptop | Intel Core i7; exact GPU and full configuration not stated in the cited table | $1,350 | 50 | Higher-rated, but substantially above the two lower-priced candidates; confirm the exact GPU and SKU before relying on it for graphics workloads |
| ASUS Vivobook S 15 | Snapdragon X Elite | $1,300 | 50 | Higher-rated same-platform candidate, but not an obvious budget choice |
Two lower-priced options to investigate first
Acer Swift 16 AI (SF16-51T-76TG)
The guide lists this Core Ultra 7 laptop at $850 and assigns it a performance rating of 40, compared with 30 for its Galaxy Book4 Edge entry. That makes it a higher-rated candidate if your comparison is with that X Plus guide entry. It does not show how much faster the Acer is, or whether it wins on a specific task. Check the retailer listing against the exact SF16-51T-76TG model before buying; the cited comparison does not establish details such as its memory, storage, upgradeability, battery life or weight.

Dell Inspiron Plus 16 (i7640-7059BLU-PUS)
At a guide price of $800, the Dell is listed with a Core Ultra 7 processor and 32 GB of memory, and receives a rating of 50. It is the strongest-rated of the two sub-$900 candidates in this table, while also costing $50 more than the Acer’s guide price. The rating does not establish a particular benchmark advantage. Confirm the exact processor, storage and other configuration details for SKU i7640-7059BLU-PUS, since a retailer may list different configurations under a similar product name.

HP OMEN 16.1-inch Intel Core i7
The guide lists this model at $1,350 with a rating of 50. It may suit someone considering a gaming-oriented laptop, but the guide entry does not identify the exact GPU or establish gaming performance. Check the full model number and GPU before treating it as a graphics upgrade; its guide price also puts it well above the Acer and Dell entries.

Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 2 (21MA0006US)
The ThinkPad E16 Gen 2 is listed with a Core Ultra 7 processor at $1,090 and a performance rating of 50. It is a possible business-laptop alternative, but the cited table does not rate it above the Galaxy Book4 Edge entry: its rating is 50 versus the Edge’s 30? Actually, Consumer Reports lists the ThinkPad at 50, while the Edge is 30, so it is higher-rated in that table. That rating still does not prove faster performance in every workload or establish a direct benchmark result.
ASUS Vivobook S 15
The Snapdragon X Elite Vivobook S 15 receives a rating of 50 and has a guide price of $1,300. It offers a same-platform comparison with a higher-tier Snapdragon chip, but that price makes it a poor fit if “budget” means below the Edge’s guide price or the two sub-$900 candidates. Verify the specific configuration and local price rather than assuming all Vivobook S 15 models share these details.

What to check before choosing one
- Match the exact Edge baseline. Do not treat the 15.6-inch Snapdragon X Plus entry and the reviewed 16-inch X Elite configuration as interchangeable.
- Identify the work that matters. A category rating alone does not establish CPU, graphics or sustained-load performance for your software. Look for results for the exact laptop configuration and workload if a specific task is decisive.
- Verify the retailer’s complete SKU. Confirm processor, memory, storage and, for gaming or graphics work, the GPU. Similar model names can refer to different configurations.
- Check Windows-on-Arm compatibility. Snapdragon X laptops run Windows on Arm. PCWorld says most applications run well, but some may not run or may perform poorly. Confirm that your essential applications and peripherals work as expected before selecting an Arm-based model.
- Compare the current local price and practical specifications. Consumer Reports’ figures are guide prices, while Samsung’s US listing is a market- and configuration-specific price. Also compare display, battery life, weight and upgradeability for the exact configuration; the cited table does not settle those trade-offs.
How to read the price comparison
Consumer Reports’ 2026 guide lists the X Plus Galaxy Book4 Edge at $750, while Samsung US listed a particular 15.6-inch Snapdragon X configuration with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB eUFS at $999.99 when accessed in 2026. These are different sources and price contexts, not a single universal current price. The $800 Dell and $850 Acer guide figures likewise should not be treated as live offers. Check the current price in your market and make sure the listing matches the model number and configuration in the comparison.
