There is no single function key that turns off every laptop touchpad. Look for a touchpad icon on your keyboard and check the manual for your exact model: the shortcut may be a top-row key on its own, the same key pressed with Fn, or a different key combination. If the shortcut is unavailable or does not work, Windows settings may offer a touchpad toggle.
How to find your laptop’s touchpad key
- Look for the touchpad symbol. Scan the keyboard for a key marked with a touchpad-shaped icon. Lenovo explains that an icon identifies a hotkey function, and its V140-15IWL guide shows the touchpad symbol on F6: Lenovo hotkey guide.
- Check your exact model’s manual. The icon and key combination are not consistent across manufacturers or even across a brand’s product lines. Use your laptop’s model number to find the right instructions rather than relying on a generic shortcut list.
- Try the key alone and with Fn. Which method works can depend on the laptop’s hotkey mode. Lenovo says this mode is a UEFI BIOS setting; in its E41-50 guide, enabled mode requires Fn with the hotkey, while disabled mode uses the hotkey directly: Lenovo hotkey mode guide.
Examples of documented touchpad shortcuts
These examples show why a universal answer would be misleading. They apply to the named devices or families, not every laptop from the same manufacturer.

Turn off the touchpad in Windows 11
On the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7a, the documented Windows 11 route is Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad; switch off the Touchpad toggle. The precise wording and available options may vary by Windows release and laptop. See Lenovo’s guide for the cited route.

What to check if the shortcut does not work
- Recheck the model-specific instructions. The key may differ from what you expected, or it may need to be pressed with Fn.
- Check the manufacturer’s hotkey software. LG says its HotKeyManager can be disabled and recommends enabling it if the shortcut is not working.
- Check the touchpad driver. LG also provides driver reinstall guidance; MSI advises using system settings if its shortcut does not toggle the pad.
- For cursor movement while typing, consider sensitivity. LG suggests adjusting touchpad sensitivity as an alternative to switching the touchpad off.

LG documents a setting that controls whether the touchpad stays on when a mouse is connected, so you can check your model’s settings if you want the touchpad disabled only while using a mouse. You do not need to buy a mouse just to turn off the touchpad.
