How to choose based on what matters to you
Choose iPhone 17e for the lowest listed price
At $699, iPhone 17e is the least expensive of these listed options. Its single rear 48MP camera and lack of ProMotion distinguish it from iPhone 17. The key question is whether you need the 17’s dual-camera setup and ProMotion display enough to pay $200 more at the listed starting prices.

Choose iPhone 17 for a stronger everyday feature set
iPhone 17 adds a 6.3-inch ProMotion display and a dual 48MP camera system, compared with the 17e’s 6.1-inch display and single 48MP Fusion camera. Apple lists up to 30 hours of video playback for iPhone 17 and up to 26 hours for 17e; these are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. Apple’s iPhone 17 technical specifications provide the model’s published specifications.
Choose iPhone Air if thinness and lightness are the priority
Apple positions Air around its thin, light design and lists a titanium frame and A19 Pro chip. Its rear camera is a single 48MP Fusion camera, so do not assume its “Pro” chip means it has the Pro models’ multi-camera system. If camera flexibility matters more than the form factor, compare it with iPhone 17 and the Pro models.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max for camera control
Apple identifies variable aperture on the 48MP main camera and a three-camera 48MP Pro Fusion system as Pro differentiators. The Pro starts at $1,199 and Pro Max at $1,299, a $100 listed starting-price difference. Apple reports up to 36 hours of video playback for eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro versions and up to 45 hours for eSIM-only Pro Max versions. These are Apple-reported figures, not independent test results. Apple also says its testing of preproduction devices and software showed up to a 40 percent sustained performance gain over the prior generation; that claim is Apple’s, not an independent benchmark.
Consider iPhone 16 only after checking the exact listing
Apple lists iPhone 16 from $799. The available specifications do not establish a complete feature-by-feature comparison against the newer phones, so check the current model configuration and availability rather than assuming it is the best-value option solely from its place in the price ladder.

Wait for iPhone Duo if the foldable design is the point
Apple’s U.S. store showed iPhone Duo from $1,999 with a preorder date of October 16. That is a future preorder at the October 7 snapshot, not proof that the phone could be ordered then. Its price and availability should be checked again on the store page before making a purchase decision.

The listed starting-price ladder runs from $699 for iPhone 17e to $1,299 for iPhone 18 Pro Max. It is useful for narrowing the field, but it does not show the cost of a particular storage configuration or the final checkout total. Compare like-for-like storage options on Apple’s live store page, and treat any carrier offer, installment plan, or trade-in credit separately from the listed starting price.
