Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf mobile data is unreliable on your iPhone, first check that Cellular Data is on and that the correct SIM or eSIM line is enabled and selected for data. Then check whether the problem affects one app or every app, whether you are roaming, and whether the phone shows SOS, No Service, or Searching. Menu names and available options vary by iOS version, carrier, region, and iPhone model.
Start by narrowing down what is failing
Before changing settings, note the symptoms. Do all apps fail, or just one? Can you make calls or send texts? Does the status bar show SOS, No Service, or Searching? Did the problem begin after travel or a SIM/eSIM change? Also check whether Wi-Fi is connected: it can make an app appear to work even when cellular data is unavailable.

These clues help you choose which settings to inspect; none alone proves that the iPhone has a hardware problem.
Check Cellular Data and the line used for data
- Open Settings > Cellular. Depending on your iOS version or region, the menu may be called Cellular Data or Mobile Data.
- Turn on Cellular Data if it is off. Apple Support explains: “If cellular data is off, all data services—including email, web browsing, and notifications—use Wi-Fi only.” Apple’s cellular data settings guide describes this setting.
- If you use Dual SIM or Dual eSIM, tap the line you intend to use. Confirm that the line is turned on, then check the setting for the line used for cellular data. The labels and choices shown depend on your carrier and configuration.
With more than one line, check settings under the line that is actually supposed to carry data. A working voice line does not necessarily mean the other line is enabled or selected for data.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
If only one app cannot get online
In Settings > Cellular, scroll to the app list and make sure cellular access is enabled for the affected app. If access is off, that app may work on Wi-Fi but not over mobile data, even when other apps can connect.
Check Data Mode, but do not mistake it for a network repair
Open Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options and review Data Mode, if that option appears. Low Data Mode reduces cellular usage by pausing automatic updates and background tasks. It can explain delayed background activity, but it does not restore a lost cellular connection. Available modes differ by device, carrier, and region. Apple outlines the options in its cellular data settings guide.

If 5G is missing, check support and coverage
A missing 5G indicator does not by itself mean cellular data is broken. 5G availability depends on the iPhone model, carrier, plan, and coverage where you are. LTE or 4G may still provide data. Check those dependencies before changing the preferred network mode; the available network settings vary, so forcing a particular radio mode is not a universal fix. See Apple’s guide to using 5G with iPhone.

If the phone should have service but appears not to connect, turning Airplane Mode on and back off is a reasonable reconnect attempt. For travel-related connection trouble, Apple recommends leaving Airplane Mode on for about 30 seconds before turning it off and allowing the iPhone to select a network automatically. That travel sequence is separate from Apple’s general No Service steps below.

Turn on Data Roaming only when your travel situation calls for it
Data Roaming can allow data over another cellular network when you are outside your carrier’s coverage area. It may also lead to roaming charges, depending on your plan and destination. Before enabling it abroad, confirm the plan, fees, and rates with your carrier. A travel eSIM is another option to compare.
- Open Settings > Cellular (or Cellular Data or Mobile Data).
- If you have multiple lines, select the line you want to use.
- Open that line’s cellular data options and review Data Roaming. Turn it on only if appropriate for your carrier plan and location.
The setting is tied to the selected line, so check the line that will carry your travel data. Apple’s roaming options guide explains roaming and the need to check plan costs. Its travel connection steps cover Airplane Mode and automatic network selection.

Check for a carrier settings update
Carrier settings updates can improve cellular connectivity and performance or enable carrier features. A new SIM or eSIM may require settings from its carrier. To check manually, connect to Wi-Fi or cellular, then open Settings > General > About. If an update prompt appears, follow it. Apple provides the steps in its guide to updating network provider settings.

When the status says SOS, No Service, or Searching
These messages indicate that the iPhone does not have a normal connection to a cellular network. Try Apple’s basic reconnect sequence:

- Turn Airplane Mode off and allow the phone to reconnect.
- Restart the iPhone.
- If you use Dual SIM, confirm the intended line is turned on and selected as needed.
If the status persists, contact your carrier and ask it to verify your account status and whether there is a network or coverage issue. Apple’s SOS, No Service, or Searching guidance covers these checks.
Use Reset Network Settings only after the simpler checks
Resetting network settings is a later step, not a first response to one unreliable app. It removes previously used networks and VPN settings that were not installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM). Wi-Fi is cycled, and cellular data roaming may be turned off. Afterward, reconnect to Wi-Fi and check Data Roaming again if you need it.
Do not delete an eSIM as a routine troubleshooting step. Apple describes network reset effects in Reset iPhone settings to their defaults.
