Which Intel Arc Graphics Settings Should You Change for Smoother Gaming?

For smoother Intel Arc gaming, stabilize rendered frame rate first, then compare XeSS Super Resolution and test Frame Generation and XeLL where supported.

For smoother gaming on Intel Arc, first stabilize the game’s own rendered frame rate. Then, if the game supports them, compare XeSS Super Resolution presets, try Frame Generation only once the base frame rate is viable, and use Xe Low Latency (XeLL) when input response matters. No single setting is best for every game or Arc system.

What each Intel XeSS setting changes

These features address different parts of the experience, so one cannot simply substitute for another. Intel describes them as technologies that can be combined when a game and system support them.

Feature What it does What to compare
XeSS Super Resolution Renders at a lower resolution and upscales the image to the output resolution. Image clarity versus rendered performance. Compare the available Quality, Balanced, and Performance presets; their results depend on the game’s implementation and your hardware. Intel’s XeSS overview describes the preset trade-off.
XeSS Frame Generation or Multi-Frame Generation Generates additional frames between rendered frames to make motion appear more fluid. Perceived motion smoothness versus the responsiveness of controls. It does not replace a stable underlying frame rate.
Xe Low Latency (XeLL) Is intended to reduce input-to-screen latency. Input response, especially when generated frames make motion look smoother but responsiveness still feels lacking. Availability and behavior depend on the game and system.

Feature support is conditional: the game must implement the relevant technology, and the GPU, operating system, and driver must meet its requirements. Intel’s Arc gaming technologies page lists features and supported games; check it alongside the game’s own support notes.

Change settings in this order

  1. Update the driver for your Arc device

Install the current Intel graphics driver that matches your hardware, then check its release notes for relevant game or feature support. Driver support changes over time. For example, Intel’s February 13, 2026 release notes for driver 32.0.101.8509 document expanded XeSS 3 Multi-Frame Generation support for named Arc platforms. That list should not be treated as support for every Intel GPU.

    #1 Best Overall
ASRock Intel Arc A580 Challenger 8GB OC Graphics Card, Intel Xe HPG Architecture, 8GB GDDR6, PCIe 4.0, Dual Fans, 0dB Silent Cooling, DisplayPort 2.0
    • Next-Gen Intel Arc Graphics: Powered by Intel Arc A580 GPU with Intel Xe HPG microarchitecture, featuring 384 XMX engines for enhanced AI acceleration and content creation.
    • High-Performance Memory: 8GB GDDR6 on a 256-bit interface running at 16 Gbps, delivering excellent bandwidth for 1440p gaming and creative workloads.
    • Factory Overclocked: Engine clock set at 2000 MHz out of the box, providing optimized performance for smooth gameplay and multimedia tasks.
    • Advanced Dual-Fan Cooling: Features a dual-fan design with striped axial fans and an ultra-fit heatpipe for efficient thermal management. 0dB Silent Cooling stops fans completely at low temperatures for silent operation.
    • Durable Construction: Includes a stylish metal backplate for enhanced PCB rigidity and a premium aesthetic, backed by ASRock's Super Alloy components for long-term reliability.
  2. Establish a stable baseline in the game

Play the same demanding scene or run the same built-in benchmark and note the rendered frame rate and whether it fluctuates. If it is low or inconsistent, reduce the settings that are most demanding in that title or lower render resolution. There is no universal shadow, texture, or ray-tracing setting that guarantees a smoother result across games.

  3. Compare XeSS Super Resolution presets

If available, test Quality, Balanced, and Performance at the same output resolution and in the same scene. Choose the clearest image that improves performance enough for your needs. Preset names are not a promise of identical image quality or frame-rate gains across games.

ASRock Intel Arc Pro B70 Creator 32GB Workstation Graphics Card, Xe2-HPG, 32GB GDDR6, PCIe 5.0, 4X DP 2.1, Blower Fan, Vapor Chamber, Honeywell PTM7950
    • System Compatibility Note: This 2-slot card measures 271 x 112 x 39 mm and requires a single 12V-2x6-pin power connector. Please verify chassis and PSU compatibility before purchase.
    • Dedicated Support: Please contact us directly through Amazon for any product questions or assistance you may require.
    • Professional Intel Arc Pro B70 GPU: Built on the Intel Xe2-HPG architecture, it features 32 Xe cores and 256 XMX engines, designed to accelerate AI, rendering, and complex visualization workloads.
    • Massive 32GB GDDR6 VRAM: Equipped with 32GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit bus, running at 19 Gbps, which allows for handling large AI models and complex datasets locally.
    • High-Performance Engine Clock: Delivers an engine clock of 2540 MHz, providing the compute power needed for demanding professional applications and AI inference.
  4. Try Frame Generation after the base frame rate is stable

Intel’s XeSS-FG developer guide recommends a 60 FPS input target and gives 40 FPS as a minimum target for its implementation. These are Intel recommendations, not a guarantee that every game will feel smooth at those rates. Assess the generated-frame result and control response separately; enable XeLL or the game’s latency option when responsiveness is the priority and the option is supported.

  5. Check refresh-rate and motion-blur behavior

Intel says XeSS-FG supports fixed and variable refresh-rate (VRR) modes and notes that motion blur may need to be disabled or adjusted when generated frames are used. Try the modes and blur settings your display and game provide. The available guidance does not establish one best V-Sync setting for every setup.

    • TORN Cooling 2.0
    • Metal Backplate
    • Blue Breathing Light
    • Graphic card sag bracket
  6. Change one option at a time

Repeat the same scene or benchmark after each change. This makes it easier to tell whether a setting improved frame consistency, visual clarity, or responsiveness rather than merely changing how motion looks.

Check compatibility before looking for a toggle

A missing option does not necessarily mean a driver problem. The game may not implement that XeSS feature, or the Arc GPU generation, operating system, or driver may not meet the feature’s requirements. Intel’s developer guide specifies requirements for XeSS-FG, including DirectX 12, Windows 10 or 11 versions, Arc graphics with XMX, a minimum driver version, and XeLL requirements. Because these requirements evolve, use the current Intel guide and the game’s support notes rather than assuming every Arc device has every toggle.

Intel’s February 2026 driver notes name particular Arc B-Series and A-Series discrete GPUs and several Core Ultra integrated Arc platforms for expanded XeSS 3 Multi-Frame Generation support. That release-note scope is not evidence that the feature works on all Intel graphics hardware.

What performance figures can—and cannot—tell you

Intel Gaming Access reported 19% better average frame rates and 20% smoother average frame delivery in a set of DX11 games in connection with an Arc driver update on August 18, 2023. Those are Intel’s vendor-reported results for that update and game set, not a prediction for a particular game, driver, or PC. See Intel Gaming Access’s August 2023 report.

The practical result depends on the game, driver, CPU, display, and system configuration. A VRR-capable gaming monitor is relevant only if your display setup supports it; Intel documents XeSS-FG operation in both fixed and variable refresh-rate modes. A new monitor or graphics card is not required to try the settings above.
