For no-code blog design in WordPress, start with the layouts and editing controls you actually need—not a plugin’s block count. Spectra Blocks, Kadence Blocks, Stackable, GenerateBlocks, Ultimate Blocks, and Otter Blocks are all candidates, but the right fit depends on your theme, preferred workflow, reusable designs, and whether a feature you need is free or paid. No comparable speed test establishes a universal winner.
How to choose a Gutenberg block plugin
These plugins extend the WordPress Block Editor with additional layout or content-design options. Before installing one, list the specific elements you want to build—for example, post grids, callouts, accordions, author boxes, or responsive multi-column sections. Then check the current official listing to confirm the plugin offers those elements and controls.

Try your shortlist on a staging site using your current theme and a representative post. Check how the layouts behave on mobile and tablet, how easy the editor is to use, and whether the resulting designs fit your normal publishing workflow. Also review the plugin’s supported WordPress version and recent changelog.

Consider portability before building many posts with third-party blocks: changing or deactivating a plugin may affect how its content appears. The available official listings do not establish a consistent deactivation test across these six options, so inspect a copy of your own content before committing to a large redesign. Likewise, block deactivation or conditional asset loading may be useful controls, but neither proves a plugin will make your particular site faster.

Gutenberg block plugins to consider
| Plugin | What its official listing highlights | What to check for your blog |
|---|---|---|
| Spectra Blocks | A flexible Container block, extensions for core blocks, global styles, and design-library patterns. The listing describes the core plugin, blocks, and extensions as free. | Whether its layout controls and patterns suit your theme. AI features are separate: they require the Zip AI plugin, a ZipWP account, and credits. |
| Kadence Blocks | Nested responsive row layouts, a design library, typography and color controls, and conditional CSS/JavaScript loading. Its changelog includes 2026 releases. | Whether the responsive controls and pattern workflow suit your posts, and whether the paid-feature boundaries fit your budget. Conditional loading is not a comparative speed result. |
| Stackable | A free plugin and a premium version with additional designs and advanced features. Its listing says blocks users do not need can be disabled and describes a Gutenberg-only workflow. | Whether its designs and controls cover your needs, and which blocks you can leave disabled. |
| GenerateBlocks | Listed in the official WordPress.org directory as a Gutenberg block plugin. | Check its current official feature and plan details before judging its fit, performance, or value; the listing information reviewed here does not establish stronger comparisons. |
| Ultimate Blocks | The directory positions it for bloggers and content marketers. | Whether its current content-oriented blocks match the elements you actually use in posts. |
| Otter Blocks | The directory listing describes 20+ blocks and 100+ ready-to-import designs. | Whether those designs and editor extensions fit your theme and publishing workflow. |
These are different feature profiles, not a ranking. WordPress.org showed 600,000+ active installations for Kadence Blocks, 100,000+ for Stackable, and 50,000+ each for Spectra Blocks and Ultimate Blocks when its directory was reviewed in 2026. Those figures are directory snapshots, not measures of quality, satisfaction, or performance; check the WordPress.org Gutenberg blocks directory for current information.
How the options differ in practice
Spectra Blocks: flexible layouts and global design controls
Spectra Blocks is a newer, separate plugin from Spectra Legacy. Its official listing says Spectra Legacy remains maintained, so existing users do not have to switch simply because Spectra Blocks is available. The listing states: “The core plugin, all blocks, and all Extensions are completely free and don’t require an account.” It separately explains that AI use requires a ZipWP account and runs on credits, including for Spectra Blocks Pro users. These statements describe the vendor’s listing, not an independent feature test. See the Spectra Blocks listing.

Kadence Blocks may suit bloggers who want nested row layouts and responsive controls in the editor. Its listing also describes a design library, typography and color controls, and conditional CSS and JavaScript loading. The 2026 changelog shows ongoing releases, including maintenance and security work; release activity does not establish that it outperforms another plugin. Review the Kadence Blocks listing for current compatibility and paid-feature details.

GenerateBlocks, Ultimate Blocks, and Otter Blocks: verify the exact fit
The official directory identifies GenerateBlocks as a Gutenberg block plugin, positions Ultimate Blocks for bloggers and content marketers, and lists Otter Blocks with 20+ blocks and 100+ ready-to-import designs. Those descriptions provide starting points, not a basis for claims about speed or overall value. Check each current listing against the blocks and layouts on your must-have list: GenerateBlocks, Ultimate Blocks, and Otter Blocks.

- Choose Spectra Blocks as a candidate if flexible containers, core-block extensions, global styles, and design-library patterns match the way you want to build pages. Treat its AI functions as a separate service with account and credit requirements.
- Choose Kadence Blocks as a candidate if nested responsive rows and a design-library workflow are priorities, after checking which features you need are included in the plan you would use.
- Choose Stackable as a candidate if its designs cover your needs and the option to disable unused blocks fits your preferred setup.
- Evaluate GenerateBlocks carefully if it is on your shortlist, but confirm current official feature and plan details rather than assuming a performance or value advantage.
- Look at Ultimate Blocks or Otter Blocks if their current content-focused blocks or ready-to-import designs map directly to elements you want in your blog.
Before adopting any option, compare the current free tier with the exact paid feature you need. Comprehensive current pricing across all six plugins is not established here, and product features, compatibility, and plan limits can change.
