On a Fold, pair it with cover-screen tasks, edge-swipe shortcuts, and Edge panel apps; each solves a different reach or navigation problem.
Start with One-handed mode to bring controls within reach
Samsung describes One-handed mode as temporarily scaling down the display for easier control with one hand. Turn it on at Settings > Advanced features > One-handed mode, then choose Gesture or Button as the activation method. Samsung notes that some features may be unavailable while the mode is active. Once the smaller display appears, move it to the left or right to suit the hand you are using, and adjust its position as needed. If you select Gesture, check that its activation gesture works with your phone’s navigation setup. The reduced view is temporary: Samsung says the display returns to normal size when the screen turns off or the phone is locked, so activate the mode again when you need it.
Use Fold features to avoid reaching across the inner screen
Handle quick tasks on the cover screen

Assign edge swipes with One Hand Operation+
If you would rather trigger commands than shrink the screen, Samsung’s One Hand Operation+ utility lets you assign short edge swipes to actions or app launches. You can adjust the swipe handles for your thumb size and case shape. Samsung’s UK instructions say the utility supports smartphones and tablets, while the built-in One-handed mode is for smartphones; menus and availability can vary by device and market. Put frequent apps in the Edge panel
On the Galaxy Z Fold7, the Edge panel or Multi window tray provides quick access to selected apps and saved app pairs, and can help open split-screen or pop-up views. Enable it at Settings > Display > Edge panels, then customize the tray. It reduces navigation steps; it does not shrink the display. These directions are Fold7-specific, so other generations may differ.

Use Flex mode when the phone can be partly folded
On Fold7, Flex mode can put supported app content above its controls when the phone is partly folded. Samsung gives the path Settings > Advanced features > Flex mode panel; choose apps under Auto show panel when folded. In supported situations, the Flex touchpad can be used to select items. This is useful when the phone can rest partly folded, not a universal one-handed setting, and not every app is compatible.

Check model and app support before relying on extra options
Menu names and feature availability are not identical across every Fold generation, One UI version, or regional variant. Samsung’s Labs features are experimental, may be absent on some foldables, and may not work correctly with every app. Depending on the device, Labs may include options such as Multi window for all apps, app screen zoom, or swipe controls; treat these as optional experiments rather than guaranteed one-handed features. Older-model guidance should not be assumed to describe current Folds: Samsung Canada, for example, says Flex mode is unavailable on the original Galaxy Z Fold in the context of its guide.
