Change settings to match the shot you want—not to chase a universal “best” preset. On the Galaxy S26 Ultra, check why a photo may save at 12MP instead of 24MP and use its composition and focus controls when useful. On Pixel 11 Pro, consider setting a default photo Look, choosing the lens manually, or enabling Video Boost only if its Google Photos workflow suits you. These are feature and workflow recommendations, not a claim that one phone takes better photos.
What should you change first?
Start with the setting tied to your goal. Most people do not need to change every camera option: composition guides and saved launch preferences are convenience choices, while resolution, RAW capture, lens selection, and boosted video affect the capture or editing workflow.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: How do you keep photos from saving at 12MP?
Samsung says the S26 Ultra can save a photo at 12MP rather than 24MP depending on zoom, capture mode, close-ups, burst or continuous capture, flash, Night mode, document scanning, temperature, and the Photo enhancer setting. For the listed 24MP zoom bands, Samsung specifies 0.6x–1.9x and 5x–9.9x, and says Prioritize quality is required for 24MP output. This does not guarantee every shot will be 24MP: other capture conditions can still result in 12MP. Samsung’s S26 resolution troubleshooting guide lists the restrictions.
- Open Camera and tap Quick controls.
- Open Camera settings, then Photo enhancer.
- Select Prioritize quality.
- For a shot intended to save at 24MP, stay within Samsung’s listed zoom bands and avoid the capture conditions that trigger 12MP output.
Samsung says Balanced or Prioritize speed can lead to 12MP output. If a particular picture still saves at 12MP, check its mode and capture conditions rather than assuming the camera failed.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: Which everyday controls are worth using?
Samsung’s Camera quick controls include exposure, aspect ratio, resolution, timer, flash, Motion photo, and video stabilization. Camera settings include tracking autofocus, composition guide, location tags, Photo enhancer, and settings to keep. The controls available can vary by mode. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 camera guide describes these controls.
- For straighter framing: Turn on Composition guide to show grid and level lines. It helps with alignment; it does not itself improve image quality.
- For a hands-free shot: Use the timer when you need time to get into position or want to avoid touching the phone at capture.
- For a moving person or pet: Try Tracking auto focus, then inspect the resulting image to confirm focus landed where you wanted. Samsung documents the control, but no independent focus hit-rate comparison is established here.
- For video while moving: Consider video stabilization. Choose available video formats only if the apps and editing or sharing workflow you use support them.
Samsung lists high-efficiency, high-bitrate, HDR, Log, and APV video options. Availability and controls depend on mode, and Samsung calls out APV compatibility for selected apps; do not assume every app can play or edit every format.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: When should you use Expert RAW?
Use Expert RAW when you want more control during capture and are willing to edit afterward—not as a required everyday setting. Samsung says Expert RAW saves both a JPEG and a Linear DNG 16-bit RAW file. It offers manual ISO, shutter speed, white balance, exposure, and focus controls. Google documents default Camera Looks that affect HDR photo processing as well as stylized Looks for creative treatments. Looks are for photos according to Google’s help instructions, so do not treat them as video filters. Choose a default Look if you want a consistent starting appearance, or pick a stylized Look when you want a deliberate creative treatment; available sliders let you adjust the result. Google also documents up to four quick-access controls and a Launch mode setting. Google’s Camera settings help explains these options.

To reduce repeated taps, add the controls you actually use to quick access and set Launch mode to the mode you usually want when opening the camera. This is a convenience preference, not an image-quality improvement.
Pixel 11 Pro: How do you choose Ultrawide, Wide, or Tele?
Enable manual lens selection under the Pro tab. Google says the feature is available on Pixel 9 and later; it replaces the standard zoom control with buttons for Ultrawide, Wide, and Tele. This is useful when you want to select a physical camera directly instead of letting the standard zoom control choose a lens. Google’s high-quality photo help documents manual lens selection.

Pixel 11 Pro: Should you turn on Video Boost?
Video Boost is a deliberate processing workflow, not just a stabilization switch. Google says it requires Google Photos backup to be enabled and Locked Folder and Storage Saver to be disabled. Video Boost follows Google Photos backup settings, so consider whether that backup workflow suits the footage you intend to record before enabling it. Google documents Pixel 11 Pro Video Boost recording at up to 8K at 30 fps, a maximum recording length of ten minutes, and a supported zoom range of 0.5x–20x. - In Google Photos, make sure backup is enabled.
- Make sure Locked Folder and Storage Saver are disabled.
- In the Camera app’s Video settings, turn on Video Boost and choose the available recording options that suit your use.
- Keep the ten-minute recording limit in mind when planning a continuous clip.
What does Pro Stable Video do?
Google says Pro Stable Video is available on Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL, is on by default, and may activate automatically in some shaky, bright scenes. It is a stabilization option within the video workflow, separate from the backup prerequisites for Video Boost.

Which phone has the better camera settings?
The official documentation describes different controls and workflows, not a controlled comparison of resulting photos. The Galaxy guidance is especially specific about conditional 24MP output, manual exposure and focus options through Expert RAW, and multiple video formats. Pixel’s documented strengths here are configurable Looks and quick controls, direct lens selection, and Video Boost with defined backup requirements and recording limits. Which set of settings suits you depends on whether you value capture flexibility, a repeatable look, direct lens choice, or a cloud-connected boosted-video process.
