To make Fire TV easier to navigate, remove individual items from Recents and use accessibility settings to make focus and text clearer. There is no documented universal switch for hiding every recommendation or featured row. Settings search can help you find available controls, but menus and feature availability vary by device.
Find settings on your Fire TV
From the home screen, open Settings and try the search bar. If the setting you need does not appear, open the relevant settings tile and browse its options. Amazon says the Fire TV experience differs across some devices, so menu labels and layouts may not match exactly.

To clear a specific item from recently watched items, highlight it, press the remote’s Menu button, and select Remove from Recent. This is a selective cleanup: Amazon says items in featured categories cannot be removed, and does not document a setting that hides every recommendation or category.

Make the focused item easier to follow
VoiceView
VoiceView speaks on-screen text as you move through menus and settings. Turn it on from the Accessibility settings tile if spoken feedback would make navigation easier. Its availability can vary by device.

Text Banner
Text Banner displays the title of the focused item and related text. It can be customized in Accessibility settings. If a white box appears around focused text and you do not want it, go to Settings > Accessibility > Text Banner and turn Text Banner off; Amazon identifies it as a likely cause.
High Contrast Text
High Contrast Text changes most on-screen text to black or white with a contrasting border. Amazon describes the feature as experimental: performance varies, and it advises turning the setting off if navigation or selection becomes difficult. Availability varies across devices.

Adjust privacy controls for data-use preferences
Fire TV’s documented path for data controls is Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings. The options include Device Usage Data, App Usage Data, and Interest-based Ads. These are privacy controls, not guaranteed ways to remove recommendations or featured rows.
Amazon says turning off Device Usage Data stops processing for customized marketing and product-improvement purposes. It also says device features such as Recents continue to be supported and that other data processing may continue. Read Amazon’s privacy settings FAQs for the stated effects of these controls.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
Choose the change that matches the problem
- A particular watched item is cluttering the screen: use Remove from Recent on that item.
- You want spoken feedback while moving through menus: try VoiceView.
- You have trouble identifying the focused item or reading text: try Text Banner or, cautiously, High Contrast Text.
- You want to change how device data is used: review Privacy Settings; do not expect those controls to hide all recommendations.
The Alexa Voice Remote’s navigation ring, Home, and Menu buttons provide basic navigation controls, but remote button layouts and preset app buttons depend on the model.
