Which Doorbell Camera Fits Your Setup Without Monthly Fees?

Five doorbell cameras offer recording without a required monthly plan, but local memory, hubs, and free cloud clips have different limits and setup needs.

For a doorbell camera that records without a recurring fee, check where footage is saved—not just whether the app sends alerts. The five models below offer different routes: onboard or local storage, an indoor chime or hub, or a limited allowance of free cloud clips. None should be treated as unlimited free cloud recording, and the best fit depends on your wiring, smart-home setup, and how you want to retrieve recordings.

How to choose a doorbell camera without a subscription

Start with the recording path. A live view or motion alert does not guarantee that you can later review an event without paying. Local storage may require a card or compatible hub, while free cloud storage can be limited by retention or clip rules. Confirm what is included with the exact model and bundle sold in your region.

  • Storage and access: Identify whether footage goes to onboard memory, a card, an indoor hub, or free cloud clips, and whether you need to buy storage separately.
  • Power and installation: Wired, PoE, and battery models are not interchangeable. Check what wiring or network setup your entryway supports.
  • Smart-home fit: Compatibility varies by exact model. Verify support for your preferred ecosystem rather than assuming it applies to every product in a brand’s range.
  • Coverage and response: Check the camera view for visitors and packages, and consider reported notification or two-way-audio delays where available.

Five options, matched to different needs

Model Recording without a recurring plan Power and fit What to check
Reolink Video Doorbell (select model) Reolink advertises local storage and no required monthly subscription across its doorbell range. Range includes Wi-Fi, PoE, and battery configurations. Choose the exact model and confirm its storage medium and whether storage is included.
Eufy Video Doorbell E340 or S330 Eufy identifies both as no-subscription models with local storage. Wi-Fi is needed for phone access. Check the exact storage arrangement and whether a HomeBase is required or included in the bundle.
Aqara Video Doorbell G4 Up to seven days of free event-cloud clips; optional local microSD recording through the indoor chime. Card not included. Battery or transformer power; supports HomeKit Secure Video and local streaming to Google and Alexa displays. Cloud clips and microSD are separate recording paths. Confirm the card and setup requirements for your installation.
EZVIZ EP3x Pro TechRadar describes 32GB onboard storage and says a plan is not required for core features. Battery model; TechRadar says an included solar panel comes with it. TechRadar reports that notifications were sometimes delayed.
Philips 7000 Series TechRadar lists 8GB internal storage and says no subscription is needed. Wired or battery operation; TechRadar describes a dual-camera view and included chime. TechRadar reports delayed two-way audio and says the model is relatively expensive.

These are candidates for different needs, not a definitive ranking of the whole market. The descriptions combine manufacturer information with the cited reviewer’s observations; they are not hands-on test results from this article.

Which model fits your installation?

For a choice of wired, PoE, or battery setups: Reolink

Reolink advertises 2K+ video, person and package detection, local storage, and no required monthly subscription across its doorbell range. The range includes different power configurations, so select a specific model before comparing installation needs. Do not assume every version uses the same storage method or includes the same components. See Reolink’s US doorbell range.

  • Battery Life & Usage Tips for Your Doorbell Camera: In laboratory conditions, the battery lasts up to 60 days with 30 daily motion activations and 10-second video recordings; actual performance may vary based on usage and environment; extend battery life by adjusting motion sensitivity, narrowing detection zones, or avoiding high-traffic areas. (Powered by a built-in, non-removable rechargeable battery for wire-free operation.)

For local storage in Eufy’s E340 or S330: check the bundle

Eufy names the E340 and S330 as local-storage doorbells that do not require a subscription, and notes that Wi-Fi is needed for phone access. Storage arrangements and HomeBase requirements can vary with the exact model or bundle; confirm those details on the listing before buying. See Eufy’s US video doorbell collection.

For free event clips plus an optional local path: Aqara G4

Aqara says the G4 offers up to seven days of free cloud storage for event clips. Separately, it can record locally to a microSD card in the indoor chime; the card is not included. That means the free cloud allowance should not be mistaken for continuous or unlimited cloud history, and a card-based setup requires its own storage purchase.

  • Exceptional Night Vision: Equipped with four powerful infrared LEDs and an advanced image sensor, providing sharp, detailed footage even in total darkness

The G4 supports HomeKit Secure Video and local streaming to Google and Alexa displays. It can run on batteries or transformer power. Aqara’s battery-life estimate assumes 35 wake-ups and six-second event recordings per day, so actual life depends on usage and settings. Aqara also says third-party cloud storage is separate. See Aqara’s G4 specifications.

TechRadar describes the EP3x Pro as a battery doorbell with 32GB of onboard storage and an included solar panel, with core features available without a required plan. Its review also reports that notifications were sometimes delayed. Treat that as a reviewer observation, not a guarantee of how every installation will perform. What “no subscription” does—and does not—mean

For these models, the phrase refers to some form of recording access without a recurring recording-plan charge, but the actual path differs: local memory, a card or hub, or a limited set of free cloud clips. It does not establish unlimited cloud retention or guarantee that every enhanced feature is included. Paid plans can still matter in subscription-centered ecosystems; for example, Ring markets video descriptions and familiar-face notifications on its Wired Doorbell 2K page. Check the current plan terms for your region before relying on a specific feature. See Ring’s Wired Doorbell 2K page.

Before you buy

  • Match the exact model number to the power source and wiring at your door.
  • Confirm whether local storage is built in or requires a separately purchased card or hub.
  • For cloud clips, check the stated retention and what events are saved; do not infer continuous recording from an event-clip allowance.
  • Verify smart-home compatibility for the exact model and your region.
  • Check current price, availability, storage capacity, included accessories, and plan terms on the seller’s listing; these details can change.
