Choose DJI Mic Mini for a compact, simple setup when you do not need onboard recording; DJI Mic 2 if you want internal recording in a conventional two-transmitter, one-receiver kit; or DJI Mic 3 for timecode, dual-file recording and support for larger multi-person setups. The best choice depends on your recording workflow, not a universal sound-quality ranking: DJI’s published specifications do not establish which system sounds best in your room, with your clothing, camera preamp or phone app.
Which DJI Mic fits your workflow?
| System | Best fit | What sets it apart | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| DJI Mic Mini | Creators who want a small, straightforward setup | DJI lists the transmitter at approximately 10 g, excluding the clip magnet, and two-level noise cancellation. | No internal recording is listed in DJI’s comparison. |
| DJI Mic 2 | People who want a local recording backup in a conventional two-person kit | DJI lists 8 GB of internal storage, 24-bit/32-bit float recording and connection capability for two transmitters and one receiver. | Its connection arrangement is less expansive than Mic 3’s; DJI lists the transmitter at 28 g. |
| DJI Mic 3 | Multi-person shoots and workflows that use timecode or more post-production options | DJI lists 32 GB of storage, 24-bit/32-bit float dual-file recording, timecode, and support for four transmitters and eight receivers. | Its added capabilities may be unnecessary for a simple one- or two-person recording setup. |

What do you need to decide before choosing?
- What will you connect it to? Check your exact phone, camera or DJI device against DJI’s supported-device information. Compatibility varies by generation and device.
- How many people will record at once? A basic two-transmitter kit may be enough for an interview. If you need more microphones or receivers, Mic 3 supports the larger arrangement.
- Do you need a backup recorded on the transmitter? DJI lists internal recording for Mic 2 and Mic 3, but not Mic Mini.
- Will you use timecode or multiple receiver feeds? Those Mic 3 capabilities matter most when your editing or monitoring workflow can use them.
- Is compact transmitter size or quoted case-assisted runtime more important? The systems differ on both; the published figures are not guarantees for every setup.
- What is included in the particular kit? Combo contents and included adapters can differ. Compare the package itself, not just the model name.
How do recording and post-production features differ?
Internal recording and file formats
Mic Mini is the simplest choice if a receiver-to-device recording is sufficient and you do not need an onboard backup. DJI’s comparison lists no internal recording for Mini. Mic 2 adds 8 GB of internal storage and 24-bit/32-bit float recording. Mic 3 lists 32 GB and 24-bit/32-bit float dual-file internal recording. Choose based on whether a local backup and Mic 3’s dual-file option serve your production, rather than assuming those specifications alone guarantee a better-sounding result.
Timecode
Mic 3 is the model in this lineup with timecode. DJI says its drift is 0.5 ppm, “which means a maximum deviation of 1 frame over 24 hours.” DJI qualifies that figure as the result of a continuous 24-hour recording setup after synchronization, with continuous power and no electromagnetic interference. It is a manufacturer-stated test condition, not a promise for every production. Details are in DJI’s Mic 3 FAQ.

Transmitters and receivers
DJI says a Mic 3 receiver can connect to up to four transmitters, and a transmitter can connect to up to eight receivers. Mic 2 is listed for a two-transmitter/one-receiver arrangement. If you only record one or two speakers to one device, Mic 3’s expanded connection capacity may not add practical value.
How small are the transmitters, and what runtime does DJI quote?
| Model | Transmitter weight listed by DJI | Operating time listed by DJI | Case-assisted operating time listed by DJI Store |
|---|---|---|---|
| DJI Mic Mini | Approximately 10 g, excluding clip magnet | 11.5 hours under DJI’s model-specific test setup | 48 hours; manufacturer estimate |
| DJI Mic 2 | 28 g | 6 hours under DJI’s model-specific test setup | 18 hours; manufacturer estimate |
| DJI Mic 3 | Approximately 12.5 g, excluding magnetic clip and magnet | 8 hours under DJI’s model-specific test setup | 28 hours; manufacturer estimate |
The operating-time figures are DJI’s model-specific published results; the case-assisted totals are DJI Store estimates. Neither should be treated as independent testing or a guarantee for every configuration. DJI’s comparison page is the source for the weights and standalone operating times; the DJI Store comparison gives the case-assisted estimates.

How far can the microphones transmit?
DJI lists a maximum transmission distance of 400 m for Mic 3 and 400 m for Mic Mini, and 250 m FCC / 160 m CE for Mic 2. DJI specifies open, unobstructed and interference-free conditions for these figures. Walls, radio interference, configuration and local radio regulations affect real-world use, so these maximums are not a reliable promise of range at a crowded event or indoors. See the conditions in DJI’s comparison.

Do not assume that components from one generation will work with another. DJI says Mic 3 transmitters and receivers are not compatible with Mic, Mic 2 or Mic Mini components. Its accessory table also lists generation-specific compatibility for receivers, phone adapters, charging cases, audio adapter cables, windscreens and clips. Some individual accessories are shared across generations, so check the exact item rather than relying on a family name. Use DJI’s Mic Series Accessory Compatibility table and Mic 3 support page.
