After a major ColorOS update, review permissions, notifications, and battery options that matter to you—but do not assume the update reset them. Menu names and feature availability vary by ColorOS version, phone model, and region. If a path below does not match, search Settings for the setting name.
1. Find the permission manager and review sensitive access
Start by confirming your ColorOS version in Settings, then look for Permission manager. OPPO documents different paths across releases:

- ColorOS 15 to ColorOS 16 and above: Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy controls > Permission manager, according to OPPO’s camera-permission guide.
- ColorOS 14 to 16: Settings > Security and Privacy > Privacy / Privacy Control > Permission manager, according to OPPO’s permission-manager guide.
- ColorOS 11 to 13: Privacy > Permission > Permission manager, according to the same OPPO guide.
These routes differ even where version ranges overlap. Search Settings for “Permission manager” rather than relying on one universal walkthrough; OPPO notes that settings and illustrations may vary by phone.
Review which apps can access your camera, microphone, location, photos and videos, and other sensitive data. For each app, choose the narrowest access that still lets it work. Options such as “Ask every time” for photos and videos, microphone, camera, or location are described in OPPO’s ColorOS 14 tips, but may not appear on every device or for every permission.

2. Check notifications and background behavior if something seems different
If an important messaging, navigation, health, or work app is no longer notifying you reliably, inspect its notification and background settings. OPPO says App management can be used for permissions, battery usage, and notification management in its ColorOS 14 tips. Treat this as a symptom-led check, not a guaranteed post-update fix: OPPO’s documentation does not establish that a major update necessarily resets these controls.
3. Review battery settings before restricting apps
Open Settings > Battery and check the options available on your phone. OPPO points to this area for features such as Power saving mode and Smart charging in its ColorOS 14 tips. Smart Charging is described in OPPO’s ColorOS 14 rollout announcement as an AI algorithm that can adjust charging current according to phone usage status to help prevent unnecessary battery wear. Its labels and availability should not be assumed to be identical across models or versions.

Battery restrictions can affect whether an app continues working in the background. Before limiting an app, consider whether you rely on timely alerts, navigation, or other background activity from it.
4. Decide whether privacy tools suit your habits
Auto Pixelate
OPPO describes Auto Pixelate as a one-tap tool for blurring sensitive names and avatars in screenshots. If it appears on your phone, it may be useful before sharing a screenshot; its presence is not guaranteed across devices. See OPPO’s ColorOS 14 tips.

Picture Keeper
OPPO describes Picture Keeper in ColorOS 14 as a way to control access to selected photos and videos. Consider it if you want an app to have access to specific items rather than your broader photo library. Availability depends on the phone and software build; the feature is described in OPPO’s ColorOS 14 rollout announcement.

OPPO’s ColorOS 16 materials describe personalization, AI, connectivity, and security features, but the existence of a feature in product material does not mean it is available on every updated phone or in every region. Check your own Settings and feature menus before looking for a control to enable.

For example, OPPO’s ColorOS 16 product page describes features including OLock, Private Cloud Computing, Motion Photos, video wallpapers, and Flux Home Screen. Its June 22, 2026 newsroom story describes Mind Space capture using a three-finger gesture or Snap Key on Find X9 Series and newly launched Reno16 series in that article’s context. These are examples to check for, not a checklist every ColorOS owner should expect to see.
