Don’t open, run, repost, or forward a suspicious game build or link. Report the message or account where you found it, report a malicious URL to the relevant service, and alert the game’s publisher or rights holder about a suspected leaked build. The right destination depends on what happened; one report may not cover them all.
Choose the right place to report it

If a scam message leads to a malicious page, report both the account or message and the URL. They are separate problems handled by different services.

Before reporting, avoid spreading the threat
Do not download or launch the file, visit the suspicious page, or share the link publicly to warn others. Steam warns that gaming malware may be disguised as pirated software, cheats, fake demos or betas, and game-related utilities. Its guidance is to be skeptical of software links—even on familiar platforms—and download software only from its official source: Steam Account Security Recommendations.

Do not attach or transmit a suspicious executable unless the official recipient specifically requests it through a safe channel. The sources do not define a universal evidence-handling procedure, so start with information that does not require you to reopen or copy the file.

Report a suspicious message or account
Use the service’s own reporting flow
Report the original message, profile, or account through the platform where it appeared. Include the surrounding context in the platform’s form if possible; avoid reposting the link elsewhere. For Steam, the recommended route is the account’s Steam profile report flow. Steam says that route is better than submitting a Support ticket and notes that moderation depends on verifiable conduct: How to Report a Scammer, Hijacker or Phisher.
Share concise, useful details
Where the form allows, provide the service name, profile or channel, approximate date and time, a brief description of the message, and the URL as text. Screenshots may help if you can preserve them without reopening or downloading the suspected content. Do not attach the build, mirror it, or publish the link.

Report a phishing or malware URL
Use the relevant safety-reporting channel for the URL, rather than treating a new threat as an appeal of an existing classification. Google Search Central has separate reporting routes for phishing and malware. Its guidance defines phishing as a page designed to imitate another page to steal personal information, and warns that report text may be sent to the site owner—so do not include personally identifying information: Google Search Central: Report spam, phishing, or malware.
Google Safe Browsing distinguishes a new phishing URL, a URL incorrectly listed as phishing, and a malware URL that is not on its list. Select the form for the issue you actually found: Google Safe Browsing reporting.

Report a suspected leaked game build
Send a report to the site hosting the listing or file through its content-abuse channel, and contact the game’s official publisher or rights holder. Include the listing URL as text and enough context to identify the game and material, but do not upload or redistribute the build.
In the United States, a DMCA takedown notice is a legal mechanism for a copyright owner or an authorized agent—not a general-purpose report for any bystander. The U.S. Copyright Office says a notice identifies the copyrighted work and allegedly infringing material, gives contact details, and includes good-faith and authorization statements. If you are not authorized to make those representations, send the evidence to the rights holder instead. These rules describe the U.S. framework and should not be assumed to apply in other countries: U.S. Copyright Office: Section 512.

Prioritize account security. For a Steam account, Steam recommends reviewing authorized devices, signing out everywhere if appropriate, changing the Steam password, checking the associated email and other related accounts, and scanning the computer for malware. A scan does not by itself prove that a device is clean. Follow Steam’s official instructions: Steam Account Security Recommendations.

Use Steam Support for personal Steam account security issues. A government incident-report form should be used only when its stated scope fits your situation; for example, the FBI Seattle Division form linked below concerns a Steam malware investigation, not every suspicious download: FBI Seattle Division: Steam malware investigation.
When the issue is a platform vulnerability
A suspected vulnerability in Valve servers, services, web properties, or first-party software belongs in Valve’s public HackerOne security program. For personal account compromise, use Steam Support instead. A leaked game build or malicious link alone is not evidence of a vulnerability: Valve on HackerOne.
