CogniRunner does not use one universal transition-detection or polling switch. A workflow validator is attached to a specific Jira workflow transition and runs synchronously; a listener responds to configured Jira events; and a scheduled job uses a cron schedule that CogniRunner checks on a five-minute platform tick. The documented timeout figures apply to validator AI paths, not every listener or scheduled job, and are runtime deadlines rather than confirmed administrator-adjustable settings.
Which CogniRunner mechanism runs when?
| Mechanism | What triggers it | Execution and effect |
|---|---|---|
| Workflow validator or condition | A chosen Jira workflow transition | Runs synchronously as part of the transition. A validator can block the transition when it returns a genuine invalid result. |
| Listener | A configured Jira product event | Runs asynchronously after the event; it cannot block a transition that has already committed. |
| Scheduled job | A due time in a five-field cron expression, with an IANA time zone | Runs asynchronously after the scheduler checks the job; it cannot block a transition. |
LeanZero’s CogniRunner product reference describes listeners for 68 Jira event types and filters such as project, JQL, changed fields, comment matching, and an optional AI condition. Configure a listener in CogniRunner’s admin panel. For a transition-specific check, add a CogniRunner validator or condition to that transition in Jira’s workflow editor. The documentation does not establish a separate, universal “transition detection” toggle. CogniRunner product reference

How polling and delivery timing work
Scheduled jobs
The scheduler checks for due jobs on a five-minute platform tick. A cron expression can specify a finer schedule, but it does not make execution more frequent than that effective tick. If a tick is missed, the scheduler replays at most one hour of missed schedule and coalesces missed due times into one run per job, rather than replaying every missed minute. It claims a due job minute before enqueueing, so duplicate platform ticks do not enqueue duplicate runs. CogniRunner scheduled jobs

Jira event delivery is asynchronous and eventually consistent. LeanZero’s reference says Forge may deliver a product event up to about three minutes after the action, after which the listener runs through a queue. This is the vendor’s description of a possible delivery interval, not a guarantee that every event arrives within three minutes. CogniRunner listeners

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What prevents listener loops and duplicate runs?
CogniRunner ignores events generated by the app by default; the listener definition can change that behavior. The vendor documents these listener brakes for any five-minute window:
- At most 120 runs per listener.
- At most 30 runs per issue.
When either brake trips, further runs in that window are suppressed. The product reference says each suppressed run does not generate a separate log entry. These brakes limit loops and bursts; the scheduler’s claim mechanism separately guards against duplicate enqueueing from repeated ticks. CogniRunner listeners

Which timeout figures apply to validators?
LeanZero documents shorter internal deadlines for validator AI calls than the Forge synchronous-function limit it cites. These are reported runtime deadlines and a platform limit, not confirmed settings an administrator can tune.
| Validator path | Documented deadline or limit | Documented timeout behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Non-agentic validator AI call | 21-second internal deadline | Timeout or infrastructure failure is logged and converted to a fail-open result; the transition may proceed without the AI check. |
| Agentic validation | 20-second internal deadline | Timeout or infrastructure failure is logged and converted to a fail-open result; the transition may proceed without the AI check. |
| Synchronous Forge function | 25-second hard limit, as cited by LeanZero | This is the platform ceiling described in the product reference, not a timeout value established for every CogniRunner path. |
A returned negative AI verdict can block a transition. The reference also describes an empty or unparseable response as a fail-closed exception. Do not extend the 20-, 21-, or 25-second figures to listeners, scheduled jobs, or every provider request: the cited material does not establish their timeout budgets. CogniRunner validators

What can an administrator actually configure?
- Transition trigger: choose the workflow transition and add its validator or condition in Jira’s workflow editor.
- Listener trigger: configure the Jira event subscription and available filters in CogniRunner’s admin panel; the listener definition can also change the default handling of app-generated events.
- Scheduled trigger: set a five-field cron expression and IANA time zone, and optionally scope the job to issues matching JQL.
The available product references describe these configuration choices but do not provide a complete inventory of editable transition-detection settings or timeout controls. In particular, they do not establish that the validator deadlines or Forge limit can be changed by an administrator.

Choose the path that matches the requirement
- Use a workflow validator when the check must run during a transition and may prevent it from completing.
- Use a listener when work should follow a Jira event and does not need to hold up the already-committed action.
- Use a scheduled job for time-based work, allowing for the five-minute scheduler tick and asynchronous execution.
