Which Claude Code Context Workflow Fits Your Project?

Claude Code does not automatically retain every detail from one coding session to the next. In a DEV Community article, Said Nasser describes using an Obsidian vault to keep project notes and working materials in files that a later session can consult. The aim is practical continuity: save context where you can read and maintain it, then make relevant files available when you resume.

What the Obsidian workflow is meant to solve

Nasser says the problem was Claude starting new sessions without enough context from previous work. His approach treats the Obsidian vault as a persistent, inspectable home for information that might help later: journal entries, unfinished tasks, commands, skills, scripts, and other project context.

That is different from claiming Claude Code has permanent memory. The useful information is stored in files; a later session must locate or receive the relevant material. The goal is to reduce the amount of background a person has to reconstruct, not to guarantee that every detail is remembered or automatically loaded.

What the creator says is in the vault

The article presents Obsidian as a readable place to maintain working context alongside related project materials. This can include both durable reference notes and changing records of work in progress. Keeping these materials in files makes them available for a person to review and update rather than treating them as hidden model state.

The exact repository and walkthrough links named in the title could not be verified here in detail. The DEV article links to them and says the video covers setup and a session-recovery test, but the test procedure and its outcome have not been independently confirmed. No recovery rate, time saving, or reliability claim follows from the mention of that test.

What to verify before adopting the repository

The title points to seestack-dev/claude-obsidian-memory on GitHub. A separate search result surfaced a README for a project with the same name under the different owner mikessh. Its descriptions of mirroring memory files and CLAUDE.md, two-way push and pull, conflict handling, explicit sync commands, and a SessionStart reminder are not verified features of the seestack-dev repository. Do not assume the two repositories are identical based on the matching name.

Before relying on any implementation details, check that the repository owner and contents match the project you intend to use. In particular, determine where notes are stored, how a new session gets access to them, whether changes are synced automatically or by command, and what happens when the vault and project disagree. The other owner’s README says its sync is not automatic, but that statement applies only to that README’s project.

How to judge whether this kind of continuity system fits

The sources describe an approach, not a controlled comparison with other memory systems. For a practical evaluation, focus on how the workflow behaves for your own projects:

  • Storage: Are notes plain files you can inspect and maintain, or are they held in a separate service?
  • Retrieval: How does a fresh Claude Code session discover the relevant notes, and do you need to point it to them?
  • Update direction: Can edits made during coding flow back to the vault, or does information move only one way?
  • Conflicts and stale notes: How can you identify conflicting edits, and how will you retire outdated instructions?
  • Sync control: Is synchronization automatic, user-triggered, or absent? Confirm this in the exact repository you use.
  • Portability and auditability: Can you back up, review, and move the context without depending on a particular tool or account?

These checks matter because persistent context is only useful when it is both available to the new session and kept accurate by someone. A vault can preserve useful history, but old or contradictory notes can also mislead if they are not maintained.
