Which Australian Family Mobile Plans Let You Pool Data?

Telstra and eligible Optus plans offer account-level data sharing; Belong offers gifting, while Boost does not share data between services. Compare full household costs and current eligibility before choosing.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a genuinely shared data pool, compare eligible Telstra bundle plans with Optus’s eligible postpaid services. Optus has surfaced an offer of four SIMs sharing 320GB for AU$165 a month, but its current availability and terms need confirmation before signing up. Telstra requires an eligible base plan and does not publish bundle prices on the cited page. Belong offers data gifting rather than an automatic family pool; Boost says its services do not share data.

The cheapest-looking price is not necessarily the lowest household bill. Count the required base plan and every line, then check eligibility, what happens when the pool runs out, coverage where each person uses their phone and whether any advertised terms are temporary.

How Australian family data sharing works

“Shared data” can mean an account-wide pool, a bundled add-on pool, or the ability to transfer data between customers. These arrangements are not interchangeable. With a pool, one person’s heavier use can leave less for everyone else; gifting usually requires a customer to transfer data rather than drawing automatically from a common allowance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For account-level pooling, the clearest options in the available provider terms are Telstra’s eligible bundle plans and eligible Optus postpaid services. Belong’s data-sharing feature is gifting, and Boost explicitly says it does not share data between services.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Provider Sharing method Eligibility or line limit Price and data evidence What to check
Telstra Automatic sharing across the account An Upfront Essential or Premium Mobile Plan is required; up to five Mobile and/or Data Bundle Plans can be added. Bundle prices and a household total are not stated on the Telstra family bundle page. Confirm the current base-plan and add-on prices, compatible services and whether the required base plan fits the household.
Optus Eligible postpaid mobile and mobile broadband plans on one bill contribute to a shared pool. Not every plan is eligible. The current plan page states a six-service account limit and names plan types that do not share with other plans. An offer surfaced as four SIMs, 320GB shared monthly data and AU$165 per month. Dividing the total by four gives AU$41.25 per SIM, but that is arithmetic, not a separate line price or equal data allocation. Verify the offer, compatible plans and complete terms in the current Critical Information Summary and checkout flow.
Belong Customers can gift data to other Belong mobile and data customers; this is not described as an automatic household pool. Applies among Belong mobile and data customers; check current plan terms. Current plan prices, data tiers and promotional bonuses vary and are not reproduced here. Check the current SIM-only plan page for eligibility, ongoing inclusions and gifting terms.
Boost Mobile No data sharing between one Boost service and another, according to its support page. Does not meet a strict shared-pool requirement. Not applicable to pooled data. Consider it only if a shared pool is not essential and you are comparing separate services on other grounds.

Provider terms and offers can change. Check the linked official pages before purchase rather than treating a surfaced price or inclusion as guaranteed.

What Telstra’s bundle pool requires

Telstra calls its add-ons “Bundle Plans.” The account needs an Upfront Essential or Premium Mobile Plan first, then can add up to five Mobile and/or Data Bundle Plans. Telstra says data is automatically shared across the account, each person gets a number and the account receives one monthly bill. The page also says there are no lock-in contracts and no excess data charges.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

The cited page does not state bundle prices, so a household total cannot be calculated from it. Add the required base plan to the cost of every desired bundle line and confirm the prices and inclusions before comparing it with another provider. See Telstra’s current family bundle details.

What Optus’s shared pool includes—and what happens when it runs out

Optus says eligible postpaid mobile and mobile broadband plans on the same bill combine their allowances. After a service uses its own allowance, it draws from the remaining pool. The support page describes usage alerts and monitoring through the account or app.

  • Without Endless Data: Optus says an additional 1GB for $10 is provided when the shared allowance is exhausted.

Those are the policies described on the linked support page; check the terms that apply to the particular plans you are considering. Optus says not every plan can share, and directs customers to check the Critical Information Summary. Its current plan page also identifies some Choice Plus, Choice Plus Data, Plus Family and Plus Kids plans as not sharing with other plans, and states a six-service account limit. Read Optus’s data-sharing rules and check its current plan page.

How to interpret the four-SIM offer

An Optus offer surfaced as four SIMs sharing 320GB per month for AU$165 per month. The simple division is AU$41.25 per SIM when there are four lines, but it does not mean each person receives a fixed 80GB allocation: the advertised data is shared. The offer should be confirmed against the current Critical Information Summary and checkout flow. A discount shown with an end date of 4 August 2026 has expired and should not be treated as a current saving. Check the offer page for live terms.

When Belong’s data gifting may suit a family

Belong’s current SIM-only page describes month-to-month plans, data banking when customers pay on time and the ability to share data with other Belong mobile and data customers. That is data gifting, not the automatic pool described by Telstra and Optus. It may suit a household comfortable with transferring data between services, but it is a different fit if the priority is one allowance that lines draw from automatically. Check the current plan details and gifting rules at Belong’s mobile plans page.

How to calculate the real household cost

Compare the total recurring bill for the lines the household needs, not a per-SIM figure stripped from its conditions. For each provider, write down the required primary or base plan, every additional line, the shared domestic data allowance, any add-on charges and the policy after the pool is depleted. The Optus AU$165 example includes four SIMs in the surfaced offer; Telstra’s cited page does not state bundle prices, so those costs must be checked directly.

  • Match the line count: compare providers using the same number of people and services.
  • Check the actual usage pattern: a pool can help when usage varies between family members, but a high total allowance is not automatically valuable if the household rarely uses it.
  • Read the after-pool rule: speed-limited continuation and paid extra data can lead to different costs and usability.
  • Separate ongoing terms from promotions: confirm the normal price and data allowance after any introductory offer ends.
  • Include account convenience: one bill and the ability to manage lines centrally may matter, but they do not make an ineligible plan share data.

No household-specific bill comparison or independent usage analysis establishes which provider will save a particular family money. The answer depends on the plans each line qualifies for and the household’s actual use.

Check coverage where each person uses the service

Before moving a family, check each carrier’s coverage for home, work, school and regular travel locations. A family plan’s shared allowance does not compensate for weak service in a place a member depends on. Coverage and 5G availability vary by location and device; no independent coverage test is established here. Do not assume a provider’s general coverage claim guarantees reception at a particular address.

A practical shortlist process

  1. Decide whether pooling is essential. If every service must draw automatically from one account allowance, focus on eligible Telstra or Optus arrangements. Treat Belong’s gifting as a different mechanism, and exclude Boost from a strict pool comparison.
  2. Confirm eligibility and service limits. Check the exact plan names, base-plan requirement, compatible services, line cap and account requirements in the current plan terms.
  3. Build the full monthly total. Add the required base plan and every additional SIM or bundle line, and distinguish ongoing prices from time-limited promotions.
  4. Check the pool’s boundaries. Confirm what data is included, whether it is domestic, and what happens when the allowance is used up.
  5. Check coverage and devices. Review the relevant coverage information for each member’s usual locations and confirm that their phones support the services they want to use.
  6. Recheck before ordering. Offers, prices, plan names and eligibility can change; verify the current Critical Information Summary and checkout details.

Why Boost does not fit a strict pooling shortlist

Boost’s support page says data cannot be shared between one Boost service and another. Separate prepaid services might still be considered for other reasons, but they do not meet the requirement for a family-wide shared data pool. See Boost’s data-sharing support answer.
