Catch an early Aniimo that adds something your starter cannot: Emberpup for Fire damage, Chirpi for Wind support, or Skippy for Water healing. These are useful options near Nimbus Fields, not a fixed ranking. The best first catch depends on whether your team needs another attacker, support, healing, or a creature skill for the route ahead.
How to choose your first Aniimo
Start by identifying your starter’s role, then catch for the gap rather than collecting a duplicate. Fan-maintained beginner guidance describes Helion as a close-range Holy attacker and Lunara as a ranged Holy attacker. It suggests broadening your team with a different element, a Heal or BREAK role, or a field skill. Those recommendations are practical guidance, not an official developer ranking. The official Steam listing describes catching Aniimo with Aniipods, Twining with collected creatures, and using creature skills in puzzles, battles, and traversal.

Choose for the route, not just the battle
Aniimo can matter outside combat. The official game description says creature skills are used for puzzles and traversal as well as battles, so a creature that helps with an obstacle on your current route may be more valuable than one that only adds a familiar combat role. The game listing also says appearances depend on environment, weather, phenomena, and time of day, so finding a particular creature may depend on conditions.
A practical decision is to ask what would help next: more damage, support, healing, a BREAK option, or traversal. Then choose among the creatures available to you rather than treating any community guide’s suggestions as a mandatory checklist.

What catching and collecting involve
The Steam listing explains that players catch Aniimo with Aniipods and Twine with the creatures they collect. It also frames companions as discoveries across Idyll: “When embarking on an adventure on Idyll, anyone you meet can become a companion!” The official website describes Aniimo collection through the Aniilog and lists in-game launch rewards, including a Sparkling Cube, Aniipod Ultra, and Tumbler. Those are game rewards, not evidence of physical merchandise.
