For a straightforward 4K setup with wired networking, consider the Google TV Streamer (4K); for Wi-Fi 6 and broad HDR and audio-format support, consider Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen); for cloud and Android gaming, consider NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro. These are maker-documented features, not independent test results, and service or format compatibility still depends on your region and equipment.

Specifications are from the manufacturers: Google, Xiaomi and NVIDIA UK. Memory and storage figures describe capacity, not measured app performance. NVIDIA’s cited page is UK-specific, so check local availability and software details. The manufacturers’ format labels do not guarantee that every title or service will play in that format.

Which one fits your setup?
Choose Google TV Streamer for wired networking and Google’s smart-home features
The Streamer lists gigabit Ethernet, 4 GB memory and 32 GB storage, plus a Thread border router and Google Home/Matter hub features. It is a practical fit if you prefer a wired connection or want those smart-home functions alongside streaming. Its specifications list Wi-Fi 802.11ac, so it is not the Wi-Fi 6 option in this comparison.

Choose Xiaomi for Wi-Fi 6 and its listed HDR and audio formats
Xiaomi’s third-generation box lists Wi-Fi 6, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage and Google TV. Its product page advertises Dolby Vision and HDR10+, as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. To use Wi-Fi 6, your router must support it; to benefit from a video or audio format, the content and connected display or audio equipment must also support it.
Xiaomi’s page notes that apps, content and features can vary by country, and that internet access and a Google Account are required. Some content or functions may require a subscription, download or purchase. Xiaomi’s performance comparisons with the second-generation model use its internal-lab data, not independent testing.

Service availability, game access and the actual output you receive depend on your region, subscription or other service terms, network, display and peripherals. The cited NVIDIA product information is for the UK.
Check your television and connection before choosing 4K
A streaming box cannot make a non-4K television display 4K. Google says output is limited by the resolution supported by both the display and streamer, and by the resolution of the content. Its guidance applies to Google’s 4K streaming devices; use the exact box maker’s requirements when checking another model.

For Google’s 4K streaming requirements, the setup needs a 4K-compatible HDTV and an HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2 and 60 fps, 4K programming, the supplied power supply and a high-speed HDMI cable. Google recommends internet service of at least 20 Mbps. The content may require a subscription. Google explains that HDCP 2.2 is required for 4K Ultra HD and 4K HDR. See Google’s 4K support guidance.
For the Google TV Streamer specifically, Google says a certified HDMI 2.1 cable is required and sold separately. Do not assume that requirement applies to every Android TV box. Google also says the Streamer works with HDMI displays at different resolutions, but playback remains capped by the display and source content; see Google’s Streamer help page.

Match the box to your services, formats and home theater
- Check the exact model and region. Confirm that the streaming services you use support that device in your country. Do not assume every product marketed as an Android box has the same app certification or service access.
- Trace the video path. The box, HDMI input, cable, television and content all affect whether you can watch in 4K or HDR. A format printed on a product page is not a guarantee for every program or subscription tier.
- Check audio equipment. Dolby Atmos or DTS:X depends on compatible content and on the TV, soundbar or receiver and connection path supporting the format. Verify passthrough behavior for the exact devices in your setup.
- Match Wi-Fi to your router—or use Ethernet where available. Xiaomi’s Wi-Fi 6 capability requires a Wi-Fi 6 router. The Google Streamer lists gigabit Ethernet; a wired connection can suit a setup where you prefer Ethernet, but does not remove other internet or service requirements.
- Think of storage as capacity, not speed. The listed storage can help compare published hardware, but capacity alone does not establish how quickly apps launch or how smoothly a device performs.
Practical choice
Pick the Google TV Streamer if Ethernet, its listed memory and storage, or Google Home/Matter features are most useful to you. Pick Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) if Wi-Fi 6 and its listed video and audio formats suit your router and equipment. Pick SHIELD TV Pro if you specifically want the documented GeForce NOW and Android gaming options and can provide compatible controls. In every case, verify regional service support and your display and audio chain before paying for features you may not be able to use.
