If a boat you have already used is stranded on land in How to Fish, get out, equip your fists, and repeatedly left-click the hull toward open water until it floats. In co-op, teammates can help push. If the boat has never been available because you lack its key, that is a progression lock—not a stuck-boat problem.
First, identify which boat problem you have
| What you see | Likely problem | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The boat worked before, but its hull is now sitting on sand or land. | It is beached. | Push it toward open water, or look for the boat reset option in the Escape menu. The developer’s announcement feed describes both options; NerdsChalk’s guide gives the push steps. |
| You have never been able to use the boat and do not have its key. | Access is locked behind progression. | Complete the Lighthouse Keeper and Spider Crab quest sequence to receive the boat keys. How to Fish Game Help’s progression guide describes the sequence. |
How to push a beached boat back into the water
- Leave the driver position and step onto shore.
- Equip your fists and stand close to the hull.
- Repeatedly left-click the boat, pushing it toward open water. If it barely moves, try pushing at a corner of the hull.
- Keep pushing until the whole hull is floating, then board and take the controls again.
The step-by-step technique and corner suggestion come from NerdsChalk’s guide, updated August 24, 2026; they are not reported here as independently tested. The developer’s GONE Fishing Steam announcements also confirm that pushing a boat stuck on land is supported.

Use co-op help or the reset option if pushing is not enough
NerdsChalk recommends having teammates push together, ideally at a hull corner. If that does not get the boat free, the developer’s announcement feed says clients can reset the boat using a button at the bottom right of the Escape menu. Look for the labeled reset option in your current menu; labels and availability can change between builds.
The same official feed says using the unstuck button no longer drops bait. It does not identify the patch that introduced pushing or the client reset feature, so no specific patch number can be assigned to either.
#1 Best Overall
- KEEP YOUR BOAT SECURE IN CHALLENGING BOTTOMS: 15 lb weight and integrated flukes help the Navy Anchor dig into sand and mud for dependable holding power.
- RECOVER ANCHORS WITH LESS EFFORT: Reverse-action shank design helps free and retrieve a fouled Navy Anchor more easily when conditions become challenging.
- PROTECT YOUR VESSEL FROM DAMAGE: Black PVC-coated finish helps resist rust while reducing scratches and scuffs on boat surfaces.
- ATTACH LINES QUICKLY AND CONFIDENTLY: Large eye opening allows easy connection to anchor rope, chain, or rode for convenient setup.
- RELY ON DURABLE MARINE CONSTRUCTION: Solid cast iron construction provides strength, durability, and reliable performance for boating applications.
How to get the boat key if the boat is locked
If the boat has never been usable, pushing will not unlock it. The source-based progression guide from How to Fish Game Help, updated August 30, 2026 and reviewed through Patch 1.0.9, describes this sequence:
- Complete the Lighthouse Keeper’s request for beer.
- Use the Empty Beer Can to summon Spider Crab, then defeat the boss.
- Take Spider Crab’s drop back to the Lighthouse Keeper and complete the hand-in to receive the boat keys.
- Afterward, obtain the radar and follow the coordinates it provides for onward routing.
The guide says it is source-based and not independently playtested. It also cautions that older shortcut videos may not reflect intended progression, citing a Patch 1.0.5 fix for unintended travel to locked islands. For co-op, it recommends treating the host’s active quest state as the reference and finishing the item hand-in before the session changes; that is the guide’s advice, not a verified multiplayer rule.

Check current instructions rather than relying on a patch number
The developer’s October 3 announcement said version 1.0 was planned for October 20, 2026; that post described a future plan, not a confirmed release. The exact patch that added boat pushing and reset is not established in the announcement material. Because How to Fish is actively updated, check the current Escape menu and official announcements if an option or control described here does not appear in your build.
