There is no Android setting Google recommends turning off to make wireless Android Auto reliable. Wireless setup relies on Bluetooth pairing and Wi-Fi, and Google asks users to keep Location Services on during setup. Reports of improvements after changing scanning, network-switching, battery, or mobile-network settings are mixed and specific to each phone and car—not proof of a universal fix.
Why does wireless Android Auto keep disconnecting?
A wireless connection depends on the phone, vehicle, and infotainment system working together. Compatibility, software versions, and setup can all matter; the available guidance does not identify one Android feature as the general cause of dropouts.
Google’s wireless setup instructions require a compatible phone and car, mobile data coverage, and Bluetooth pairing for the first wireless connection. They also say to keep Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services on during setup. Android Auto is expected to start within seconds of Bluetooth pairing, with prompts on screen if it does not; that is a setup expectation, not a promise of uninterrupted operation.
Vehicle makers may have additional troubleshooting steps. Chevrolet, for example, also advises checking that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled in its wireless Android Auto troubleshooting guidance. Check instructions for your own vehicle rather than assuming every head unit behaves identically.

Which Android features should you turn off?
None as a universal first step. A Google-hosted community thread about disconnections includes users experimenting with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth scanning, smart network switching, battery restrictions, and 5G settings. Their outcomes vary, and those reports do not establish that any of these changes fixes Android Auto generally.
If you decide to test a setting mentioned in a report, treat it as a reversible, one-at-a-time experiment—not an official fix. Record the original value, change only one setting, and see whether the connection behavior changes in your usual conditions. If it does not help, restore the original value before trying something else. Avoid disabling Bluetooth or Wi-Fi as a general remedy: both are part of Google’s wireless setup guidance.

Why menu paths differ
Android settings and labels vary by phone maker, model, carrier, and software version. Samsung explicitly notes that screens and settings can differ in its Galaxy Android Auto troubleshooting guidance. Look up the exact feature in your phone maker’s current support instructions instead of following a menu path intended for another device.
How should you troubleshoot the connection?
- Check the prerequisites. Confirm that your phone and car support wireless Android Auto and that mobile data is available. Keep Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services on while setting up.
- Pair and follow the prompts. Start the wireless connection through Bluetooth pairing, then follow the phone and vehicle screens. If Android Auto does not start within seconds, use the prompts and your vehicle maker’s instructions to continue troubleshooting.
- Check the connected-car settings. Google’s Android Auto troubleshooting page advises checking previously connected cars in Android Auto settings. The route to those settings can differ between Android builds.
- Test suspected settings cautiously. If you are investigating a scanning, network-switching, battery, or mobile-network setting, change one at a time and compare behavior. The community reports are leads for personal testing, not evidence that a particular toggle is the cause.
- Check device-specific support. Consult support for your phone and vehicle, including any applicable infotainment or head-unit instructions. Accessory makers may give advice limited to their own products: for example, Chigee’s guidance discusses possible Wi-Fi/Bluetooth channel conflicts and battery optimization for particular displays and firmware. It should not be treated as a general vehicle fix.
Can wireless Android Auto be as reliable as wired?
It may work reliably in a particular phone-and-car combination, but the sources here do not provide controlled measurements comparing wireless with wired Android Auto or establish a universal winner. If your car supports wired Android Auto, a cable is a practical fallback to test. Google says, “For the best quality and reliability when you connect to Android Auto try a high-quality USB cable.” That is wired-connection advice, not evidence that a cable repairs wireless faults.

For Android Users: Requires a phone running Android 11 or later with "Wireless Android Auto" enabled. Includes USB-A to USB-C adapter for wider port compatibility.
Use a cable that fits both the phone and vehicle and supports data, not just charging. A wired connection also means plugging in when you drive; wireless avoids that step but depends on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for setup and operation.
