First check what is actually running: Jellyfin Mobile is an Android client that connects to a Jellyfin server; it is not documented as an Android server package. Changing battery settings may help the client keep working in the background, but it cannot make a phone-hosted Jellyfin server available around the clock.
Check whether you mean playback or server uptime
The official Jellyfin Android project describes Jellyfin Mobile as an app that connects to Jellyfin instances and integrates with the official web client. If you want playback to continue after you switch apps or turn off the display, battery settings may be relevant. If you want the phone itself to host a Jellyfin server, first identify the server software and confirm that it supports that setup. The official installation documentation covers server and container approaches; it does not validate a continuously available Android-phone server configuration.

Choose the right battery mode for Jellyfin Mobile
On Android, open Settings → Apps → Jellyfin → Battery, or find Jellyfin’s battery usage page using your phone’s Settings search. Menu names and locations differ by Android version and manufacturer. Android’s background optimization documentation describes three app battery modes:

Do not switch every Jellyfin installation to Unrestricted by default. Use it when the client needs background execution and you accept the possible battery cost; otherwise, Optimized is the ordinary balanced setting. Android and device makers can apply different limits, so a mode change is not a guarantee that playback will continue in every situation.

Do not confuse screen-off playback with server availability
Jellyfin Mobile’s F-Droid listing includes permission to prevent the phone from sleeping. Its 2.7.0 release notes also report a fix for background playback with the integrated player. These are clues about client playback behavior, not evidence that the app hosts Jellyfin Server. F-Droid lists Jellyfin Android 2.7.0 as added on August 6, 2026, and says it requires Android 5.0 or newer; that compatibility information does not establish server-hosting support or 24/7 reliability.

If playback still stops
- Confirm that you are changing the battery setting for Jellyfin Mobile, not a different Jellyfin-related app or server package.
- Open the app’s Battery page in Android Settings and check whether it is set to Restricted. If background playback is the goal, try Unrestricted and observe whether the behavior changes.
- If the app is already Unrestricted, check the playback mode and the device’s own power-management settings. Exact controls vary by manufacturer and Android version; the available documentation does not establish a universal vendor-specific fix.
- If your goal is to keep a Jellyfin server online, verify the actual server implementation and its support for your device separately. The official Android client and its battery mode do not provide a validated Android server setup.
