There is no evidence-backed universal winner between Gboard and Microsoft SwiftKey. Try Gboard first if Google’s voice typing and multilingual features suit your needs; try SwiftKey if you want its documented keyboard modes, Flow gesture typing, or toolbar tools. Neither app has been shown here to be faster or more accurate in controlled comparisons, so your languages, preferred layout, voice-input needs, and privacy settings should guide the choice.
How should you choose an Android keyboard?
Start with what you do most often: swipe instead of tap, switch between languages, dictate, change the keyboard’s position or size, or use tools such as a clipboard. Both apps offer gesture typing and multilingual features, but their documented options differ. Feature lists do not establish which keyboard is more accurate or faster for you.

When is Gboard the better first try?
Try Gboard first if you already use Google’s keyboard or want to explore its documented voice typing and multilingual suggestions. Google describes Glide Typing, voice typing, and suggestions and autocorrection across enabled languages in its Gboard announcement. That announcement dates to 2016, so it supports those described features but should not be treated as proof that every announced feature remains available today.

Check advanced voice typing compatibility
Google lists English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish for advanced voice typing, and says its voice-command writing tools require a Pixel 9 (excluding Pixel 9a) or later. Check Google’s current help page and your device before relying on a particular feature; language and device support are not universal.

When is SwiftKey the better first try?
Try SwiftKey if you want documented keyboard resizing or one-handed, floating, and split modes, or if its toolbar tools fit your routine. Microsoft lists Clipboard, Translator, GIFs, and Stickers on its product page; clipboard cloud sync requires sign-in. Its gesture-typing feature is called Flow, and the company says up to five languages can be active at once. That is a vendor-reported capability count, not a typing-performance result; consult Microsoft’s language guidance for details.
Which keyboard should multilingual users test?
Compare the exact languages and keyboard layouts you use. Google describes suggestions and autocorrection across enabled languages, while Microsoft documents up to five active SwiftKey languages and detection for certain combinations sharing an alphabet and layout. Those descriptions do not show that either app handles your combination better, so test real messages in each language before settling on one.

What should you know about voice typing and privacy?
Gboard personalization
Google says that, when the relevant setting is turned on, transcripts of what you say and type are saved on the device. Its help page also documents deletion controls. Review those settings if you use personalization or voice typing. Google Help
SwiftKey data and voice options
Microsoft says, “By default, nothing Microsoft SwiftKey learns about your typing leaves your device.” Signing in enables optional cloud backup, and product-improvement sharing has a separate control. SwiftKey’s support page says multimodal voice typing is enabled by default and allows typing while dictating; you can switch to Google’s Android voice input method. SwiftKey also documents voice-data sharing controls in its settings. Review the data-sharing guidance and voice-typing guidance before changing these options.

- Type a representative sample: everyday messages, names, punctuation, and text in every language you use.
- Try both tapping and gesture typing, then dictate a short passage if voice input matters to you.
- For SwiftKey, test its resizing and one-handed, floating, or split modes if you need them; try toolbar tools you expect to use.
- Review personalization, voice-data, account, and cloud-sync settings before enabling the related features.
- Keep the keyboard that feels more dependable for your actual tasks. Feature documentation alone cannot predict your personal preference or establish a speed or accuracy winner.
Both companies’ help pages and product details may change. Device, language, region, app version, and account settings can affect what is available.
