The Moto G86 Power 5G is the lighter, higher-resolution AMOLED option; the Redmi 17 5G has the larger display, a higher India-listed battery capacity, faster charging and microSD expansion. A 91mobiles price snapshot observed on October 7, 2026 put the Moto about ₹6,163–₹6,164 below the Redmi, but that gap is not a guaranteed current checkout difference. Choose by the exact regional model, matching storage configuration and live price—not by treating advertised specifications as a substitute for hands-on tests.
How the key specifications compare
The table compares the Motorola specification published for the UK with Xiaomi’s India listing. Regional differences matter: the figures are not a promise that every market sells these exact configurations. Motorola says specifications may vary by market, and Xiaomi also notes regional configuration differences.

Which phone has the better display?
The Redmi 17 5G gives you more screen area at 6.9 inches, while the Moto G86 Power has a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a substantially higher stated resolution of 2712 × 1220. Xiaomi India’s product page specifies the Redmi’s size and refresh rate but not its resolution in the cited material; Xiaomi Global lists 1600 × 720. Keep that global figure separate from an India-specific purchase decision because Xiaomi’s regional specifications differ.

- 256GB Storage, 8GB RAM, microSDXC (dedicated slot), SIM Configuration: 1 physical Nano-SIM + 1 eSIM. This phone does NOT support two physical SIM cards. eSIM activation depends on carrier compatibility and availability.
- 6.67 inches, P-OLED, 1B colors, 1220 x 2712 pixels
- Android 15, Mediatek Dimensity 7300 (4 nm), Octa-core (4x2.5 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A55)

On paper, the Moto is the clearer choice if resolution and AMOLED are your priorities. The Redmi is the larger-screen choice. Refresh rate alone does not settle image quality, and these listed specifications do not establish brightness, color accuracy or viewing performance in use.
Battery capacity and charging: what the figures establish
For the India-listed Redmi, Xiaomi states a typical 7,900mAh battery, 45W charging and reverse wired charging up to 22.5W. Motorola UK lists 6,720mAh and 30W TurboPower for its Moto G86 Power specification. Those figures make the Redmi the higher-capacity and faster-wired-charging option on this market-matched comparison basis, but capacity and charging wattage do not prove which phone lasts longer in real use.
There is a regional discrepancy worth checking before purchase: Motorola India’s product listing uses a 7,000mAh battery claim, whereas Motorola UK lists 6,720mAh. The available manufacturer listings do not explain the difference, so use the specification for the country and exact variant you intend to buy rather than combining the numbers. Xiaomi India’s FAQ says a 45W charger is included in the India package; Xiaomi Global says its package does not include a power adapter, another reason not to assume accessories are identical across regions.

Motorola India displayed ₹16,999 for the Moto G86 Power on the product listing observed October 7, 2026. Separately, 91mobiles showed Amazon-attributed comparison prices of ₹17,835 for the Moto and ₹23,998–₹23,999 for the Redmi on October 7, 2026. That comparison snapshot puts the Moto roughly ₹6,163–₹6,164 lower, but it does not establish a permanent price difference or confirm that the compared listings use identical memory configurations, sellers or promotions. Neither third-party figure should be read as an official launch price.
Before deciding, compare the live checkout price for the same RAM and storage tier, then verify seller, included charger and regional model. Xiaomi India lists Redmi variants with 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, while Motorola UK’s cited Moto configuration has 8GB RAM and 512GB storage; the listed configurations are therefore not a direct like-for-like comparison. Prices can move, so the October 7 figures are a dated reference, not a current-price guarantee.

Durability and portability
Motorola UK rates the Moto G86 Power IP68/IP69 and lists MIL-STD 810H. Xiaomi India lists IP64 for the Redmi 17 5G. These ratings differ, but they are not a reason to deliberately immerse, drop or otherwise abuse either phone; follow the manufacturer’s care guidance and remember that resistance can be affected by wear or damage.
The cited weight figures also favor the Moto for portability: Motorola lists 185g, while Xiaomi Global lists 232g for the Redmi. Since Xiaomi’s weight comes from its global specification set and regional builds can differ, check the local model’s own listing if weight is important to you.
Cameras and performance: specs are not a verdict
Xiaomi lists a 50MP AI dual rear camera and an 8MP front camera for the India Redmi. Motorola’s cited UK specification page identifies the Moto’s Dimensity 7300 processor, but the cited material does not establish a comparable camera specification for it. More megapixels do not by themselves demonstrate better photos, and a chipset name does not establish gaming performance, sustained speed or thermals.
No direct camera, gaming, performance or battery-runtime test is available in these cited specifications. Treat those questions as unresolved rather than assuming either phone wins from its headline numbers.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the Moto G86 Power if
- You prioritize the listed 2712 × 1220 AMOLED display, a lighter cited 185g body, or the higher IP rating in Motorola’s UK specifications.
- The exact regional variant you are buying matches the Moto’s storage and RAM needs, and its current price is lower than the Redmi configuration you are considering.
Choose the Redmi 17 5G if
- You want a larger 6.9-inch screen, and Xiaomi India’s higher listed battery capacity, 45W charging or reverse wired charging matter to you.
- You need microSD expansion, or place value on Xiaomi India’s stated update commitment of four years of OS updates and six years of security updates.
Check these details before checkout
- Confirm country, exact model and network-band support for your carrier.
- Match RAM and internal storage, and check whether microSD expansion is important.
- Compare live seller prices and verify the charger included in that region’s box.
- Read the update terms and warranty details for the local variant rather than assuming another market’s listing applies.
These recommendations follow the published specifications and market listings, not controlled tests of the phones.
