Which options require a ticketed journey?
| Location | Can a non-passenger use it? | View and facilities described by Heathrow | Cost information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heathrow Academy, Newall Road | Yes; Heathrow explicitly identifies it for non-passengers. | Covered stand overlooking the northern runway. | Stand is free; parking is chargeable. |
| Myrtle Avenue | It is outside the airport perimeter and named as a spotting location. | No runway view or facilities are specified in the cited guide. | Current parking and other costs are not stated by Heathrow’s guide. |
| View Heathrow, Terminal 4 | No; it is after security and for departing passengers. | Heathrow describes a 270-degree view of the southern runway, binoculars and flight-tracking screens. | Not stated by Heathrow’s cited page. |
The View Heathrow page places the deck near gates 15 and 16, after security, so it is not a public landside viewing point. Other views in terminal departure areas, including at T5 satellite gates, likewise require access to the relevant airport area; Heathrow’s family guidance describes those terminal views.

What to check before you go
- Confirm current access and any parking arrangements, especially for Myrtle Avenue; Heathrow’s location guide does not provide current details for it.
- Do not plan around seeing every movement from either outside location. Runway use and viewing conditions vary, and Heathrow’s cited guide does not provide live runway direction or current site conditions.
- Heathrow says its byelaws regulate airport roads, buildings and land, and certain activities require airport permission. Its permit guidance says non-news or commercial filming and photography at Heathrow require a permit. That guidance does not establish that ordinary photography at the named outside-perimeter locations needs one. Read the filming and photography permit guidance and airport regulations and byelaws for the applicable rules.
