There is no single best spot or compass direction for every home: walls, nearby buildings, and terrain all affect reception, so compare positions rather than relying on a fixed rule.
How to find the best place for your Mohu Leaf
Use the television’s channel scan to compare locations. Mohu says that a higher position or placement close to or in a window may improve reception, and advises rescanning whenever the antenna is moved. These are useful starting points, not guarantees.

1. Connect the antenna and set the tuner
Connect the Leaf to the TV’s antenna input. In the television’s setup menu, select “Antenna” or “Air” as the tuner mode, then run a channel scan. Menu names vary by television.
If you have an amplified Leaf 50, connect the supplied cable between the antenna and amplifier, and power the amplifier as its guide directs before scanning.

2. Choose a starting position
Place the antenna as high as practical, near or in a window if possible. Keep it away from metal; for a Leaf 50, Mohu’s guide also describes mounting it on a non-metallic wall or bookcase. A window that works well in one home may not work as well in another.
3. Aim toward the stations you want
Find the locations of the local stations you want to receive and point the antenna generally in their direction. There is no universal north, south, east, or west setting: the useful direction depends on where you are and where the transmitters are.

4. Scan, compare, and repeat
After each move or change in orientation, run another channel scan. Note which desired channels appear and whether reception stays stable, then compare the results with your previous position. Mohu’s Leaf 50 setup guide advises: “If reception is sporadic, try moving the antenna to another location and rescanning the TV.”
For a meaningful comparison, change the position or angle and keep the TV and scan process the same. Consider height, window proximity, direction, and nearby metal, walls, buildings, or other obstructions. A scan helps identify channels the tuner detects; check whether they remain stable during viewing as well.

If reception is still inconsistent
Check the Leaf 50 amplifier advice only for that model
If you have a Leaf 50 and reception remains problematic, Mohu’s Leaf 50 guide suggests trying a scan with the amplifier removed. Follow the instructions for your exact antenna; this troubleshooting step should not be assumed to apply to every Leaf model.
Consider the limits of indoor placement
Terrain, buildings, walls, and other nearby objects can affect indoor reception. If repeated placement and orientation tests do not provide the channels or stability you want, an outdoor antenna may be an option, though it involves additional installation requirements.
