Where to Find Your iPhone’s Wi‑Fi MAC Address

Your iPhone’s Wi‑Fi MAC address appears as Wi‑Fi Address in About. A network-specific Private Wi‑Fi Address may be different.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Find your iPhone’s Wi‑Fi MAC address in Settings > General > About, beside Wi‑Fi Address. If you need the address your iPhone is using on one particular Wi‑Fi network, check that network’s Private Wi‑Fi Address setting instead; it may show a different value.

Find the Wi‑Fi address in Settings

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General, then About.
  3. Scroll to Wi‑Fi Address. The value shown is the iPhone’s Wi‑Fi MAC address.

Use this value when you need the address listed in the iPhone’s device information. If a network administrator or router asks which address your phone uses on a specific Wi‑Fi network, check that network’s private address as described below.

Check the address used on a particular Wi‑Fi network

Apple describes a MAC address as the unique network address a device uses to communicate over Wi‑Fi. To help protect privacy, iPhone can use a different private address for each Wi‑Fi network, so the address shown in About may not be the one the phone presents to a particular network. Apple explains how private network addresses work.

  1. Open Settings > Wi‑Fi.
  2. Tap the Info button beside the network.
  3. Look for Private Wi‑Fi Address to see or change how the iPhone uses an address on that network.

If you are not connected to the network, Apple’s instructions say to tap Edit on the Wi‑Fi screen, then tap the Info button beside the saved network. See Apple’s steps for the network-specific Wi‑Fi settings.

How Private Wi‑Fi Address affects the MAC address

On iOS 14 and later, Private Wi‑Fi Address is available for Wi‑Fi networks. On iOS 18 and later, the network setting has three modes. Apple documents the modes and their behavior.

Mode Address behavior
Off Uses the iPhone’s hardware Wi‑Fi address.
Fixed Uses a private address that does not rotate. Apple says this is the default for a new network secured with WPA2 or stronger.
Rotating Changes the private address every two weeks. Apple says this is the default for a new weak-security or unsecured network.

On supported networks, Apple recommends leaving Private Wi‑Fi Address enabled. A network-specific exception may be needed if a feature such as parental controls or authorized-device identification depends on the hardware address. For the privacy guidance and exceptions, see Apple’s private network address article.

If a network does not work with the private address

Do not turn the setting off as your first troubleshooting step. Apple says a private Wi‑Fi address does not affect how you join or use most Wi‑Fi networks. If you cannot join a network, reach local resources, or use software after connecting, update iOS and try again before changing the address mode. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance for private Wi‑Fi addresses covers these cases.
