Where to Find UK and German Economic Data and Set Up Release Alerts

Use ONS for UK release schedules, Destatis for German data and planned press releases, the Bundesbank for its statistical calendar, and Eurostat for EU-level releases. See where to search and which update alerts each service documents.

For UK releases, start with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) release calendar. For German federal data, use Destatis’s GENESIS-Online database and weekly press preview; for Bundesbank statistics, use the Bundesbank’s own release calendar. Eurostat’s calendar adds EU-level releases and comparisons. Each service covers different publishers and offers different ways to track updates, so choose the source that owns the statistic you need.

Choose the right official source

Source Best for How to track releases or updates Important limitation
ONS release calendar UK national statistics and ONS time series Search by topic or time-series ID; filter by date or publication status. The calendar offers RSS, email alerts and add-to-calendar options where available. It covers many ONS topics, so filter to the relevant series and check the listing’s status and date. [c001]
Destatis GENESIS-Online German federal statistics, tables and data downloads Search the database and follow its new-data information through newsfeeds. It is a data database, not the clearest list of planned press-release dates; use Destatis’s weekly preview for that. [c002] [c003]
Destatis weekly press preview Planned German federal press releases Check the expected publication date and reporting period in the weekly list. Destatis may add press releases beyond those in the preview. [c004]
Deutsche Bundesbank statistical release calendar Statistical products released by the Bundesbank Filter the calendar by time period and category. It is not a complete calendar for all German official statistics. Dates for some seasonally adjusted business statistics are available through Destatis or the Federal Employment Agency. [c005]
Eurostat release calendar EU-level statistics and cross-country context Use the annual calendar’s filters for statistical theme or release category. For national release schedules and detailed UK or German data, use the relevant national publisher. [c006]

Set up a release watch

  1. Identify who publishes the statistic. Use ONS for UK national releases, Destatis for German federal statistics, the Bundesbank for its own statistical products, and Eurostat for EU outputs. A release calendar tracks a publisher’s schedule; it does not necessarily cover every statistic for a country. [c001] [c004] [c005] [c006]
  2. Search by series or subject. In the ONS calendar, search by keyword or time-series ID. In GENESIS-Online, search by subject or statistical code. [c001] [c002]
  3. Check the date and its status. ONS distinguishes published, upcoming, confirmed, provisional and cancelled listings. Treat provisional dates as subject to change, and revisit the publisher’s page near release time. Destatis’s preview lists expected dates but may not include every press release it publishes. [c001] [c004]
  4. Choose the notification method the page actually offers. ONS listings provide RSS, email-alert and add-to-calendar options where shown. GENESIS-Online provides newsfeeds for data updates. The Bundesbank and Eurostat calendars are useful for monitoring their schedules; do not assume they offer an email alert unless the relevant page says so. [c001] [c002] [c005] [c006]
  5. Use the database when you need repeatable data retrieval. GENESIS-Online supports custom tables, machine-readable downloads, visualisations and a web-service API, making it more suitable than a press release for repeated table-building or data collection. [c003]

Track German data updates as well as release dates

A planned release calendar and a data-update feed solve different problems. The weekly Destatis press preview helps you anticipate planned press releases; GENESIS-Online’s new-data information helps you notice database updates. Destatis says new-data information is also available through newsfeeds. Use the preview for the expected publication schedule and GENESIS when you need to find, assemble or retrieve data. Use current Destatis services for short-term indicators

Destatis announced on 13 April 2026 that its Short-term indicators page would stop being updated from October 2026 and be deactivated at the start of 2027. The underlying data remain available through the Economic Dashboard and GENESIS-Online. Destatis describes the dashboard as a low-threshold way to view current, high-frequency indicators; GENESIS is the broader database, with search, tables, downloads, charts and API access. [c003]

Use Eurostat for the European picture

Eurostat’s 2026 release calendar covers scheduled data releases and Euro indicators, with filters for statistical theme and release category. It is useful when you need EU-level outputs or harmonised comparisons across countries. For the national schedule or detailed national statistics, check ONS or Destatis directly rather than treating Eurostat as a replacement for them. [c006]
