The investment is intended to deploy liquid-cooling technology to support AI workloads at a campus Reuters described as larger than 300 megawatts.
What AirTrunk plans for its Inzai data centre campus
Reuters reported that the additional US$1 billion is planned for AirTrunk’s Inzai campus, with liquid cooling intended to enable AI workloads. The campus has traditionally supported cloud workloads, according to Reuters. The report does not specify a construction or deployment timetable, how the investment will be allocated, or which customers will use the capacity.

The figures describe different scopes. Reuters puts the Inzai campus at more than 300 MW. AirTrunk’s Japan page lists 430+ MW for its Japan operations overall and names four sites: TOK1, TOK2, OSK1 and OSK2.

Why the plan focuses on liquid cooling and AI workloads
Liquid cooling is the stated technology focus of the planned investment, which Reuters says is intended to enable AI workloads. AirTrunk CEO Robin Khuda also linked customer interest in Japan to geopolitical considerations: “Due to geopolitical reasons, we are seeing more and more customers looking to Japan from a North Asian perspective,” Khuda told Reuters. This is his explanation of customer interest, not an independently measured demand statistic.
