Open My Files on your Samsung Galaxy tablet, tap Downloads, then tap the file you want. If you can’t see it, search by its name or check whether the app or browser that started the download finished saving it.
Where are downloads on a Samsung tablet?
Samsung’s built-in My Files app groups downloaded content under Downloads. Open My Files from the app screen; on some tablets, it is inside the Samsung folder. Tap Downloads to browse items. The exact screen can differ by software version and region. Samsung’s Galaxy file-management guidance describes this route.

How to find a specific downloaded file
- Open My Files.
- Tap Downloads.
- Tap the search icon, enter the full or part of the filename, and review the results.
- Tap the matching file to open it.
If you do not remember the filename, browse the Downloads list and look for the item you expect. Samsung says My Files categorizes files, but the Downloads category does not guarantee that every app saves every kind of content there.
Why a download may be missing or fail to open
The download may not have finished
Check the notification or the browser or app that started the download for its status. If it is still in progress or failed, My Files may not show a usable file yet. Samsung recommends checking your internet connection and available device storage when a download will not start. Some websites also restrict downloads; use sites you trust. The content may belong in its original app
Most downloaded files can be opened from My Files. Protected media may be restricted to its associated app, so it might not open or be exportable through the file manager. If a file appears in Downloads but will not open, try the app that downloaded it or the media app intended for that content. Samsung’s Canada file-management guidance also notes that screen details and settings can vary by region.
Do you need an SD card or USB drive to view downloads?
No. You can view a file on the tablet through My Files without moving it to external storage. Copying or moving files to a microSD card or USB/SD storage is optional, for example when organizing files or making room on the device. MicroSD support depends on the tablet model, and USB/SD storage may require an OTG connection. Check your model’s specifications before buying or connecting storage. Samsung explains file transfers between internal and external storage for supported Galaxy devices.
