Where does Snipping Tool save screenshots?
For the Windows 11 workflow, Microsoft says a captured snip is automatically saved to the Screenshots folder. Its support instructions do not specify an absolute filesystem path, so check Snipping Tool’s Settings rather than assuming a particular drive or user-profile location. How to change the default save location
- Open Snipping Tool from Start.
- In the app window, select See More, the three-dot menu, then select Settings.
- In Settings, adjust the default Screenshots folder or automatic-save behavior.
Microsoft confirms that these options are available through Settings, but does not document their exact field labels. Those labels may vary as the app changes; use the controls shown in your installed version.
Save one snip to a different location
If you only need a particular snip in another folder, open it and select Save as. Choose the destination and filename. This saves an additional copy and does not, by itself, change where future captures are saved. Microsoft Support

Windows 10: the documented save workflow
Microsoft’s support page gives Windows 10 separate instructions: select Save Snip, then specify a location, filename, and file type. That is a manual-save workflow; the Windows 11 automatic-saving description should not be assumed to apply to every Windows 10 installation. Microsoft’s Windows 10 and Windows 11 instructions
