The Battle.net Tools folder contains helper files for the Battle.net Agent, which handles game patching and installation. Blizzard’s available instructions do not establish one exact folder path, so don’t assume it is the same as the Battle.net desktop app’s installation folder. On Windows, you can locate the app folder from Start; delete the separate Tools folder only when following Blizzard’s troubleshooting guidance.
What the Battle.net Tools folder does
The Tools folder holds files used by the Battle.net Agent. Blizzard support guidance describes the Agent as a helper for patching and installing games. Removing the folder is intended to make Battle.net download fresh Agent files the next time you launch the app, which may help if those files are outdated or damaged.

How to locate Battle.net files on Windows
Blizzard’s manual-uninstall instructions describe how to find the desktop app’s installation folder, but that route does not confirm the Tools folder’s exact location.

- Close the Battle.net desktop app.
- Open the Windows Start menu and find Battle.net.
- Right-click the app and select Open File Location.
- In the File Explorer window, move up one folder to view the app’s installation folder.
Those instructions refer to the app’s Battle.net folder. Blizzard’s guidance separately names Battle.net Tools as a cleanup target for remaining helper programs. Do not assume that the two folders are the same or that Tools is located beside the app folder. Check Blizzard’s current Deleting the Battle.net Tools folder instructions before removing it.
How to delete the Battle.net Tools folder
- Exit Battle.net before making changes.
- Follow Blizzard’s current instructions for locating the Tools folder; the Windows app-folder navigation above does not establish its path.
- Delete the Battle.net Tools folder only if you are following that troubleshooting procedure.
- Launch Battle.net again. The app should prompt it to download the Agent helper files again.
If the problem continues after the Agent files are rebuilt, use Blizzard’s troubleshooting guidance for the specific error rather than repeatedly deleting the folder.

Tools, app installation, and cache folders are different

What about macOS?
The available folder-navigation instructions are for Windows. They do not establish a macOS Tools-folder location or an equivalent Finder route. Check Blizzard’s current platform-specific support instructions rather than applying the Windows steps to a Mac.
