The Wounding Stone is in a chest beside a wooden shack near the first house in the Tiel area, southeast of the Widow’s Overlook Beacon. It is a Combat Tarstone: melee attacks inflict Perforation, which the route guide says you can capitalize on with a sidearm shot.
Where to find the Wounding Stone
Fast travel from Marrow Keep to the Widow’s Overlook Beacon, then head downhill toward the Tiel area. Look around the first house and nearby wooden shacks: the Wounding Stone is in a chest beside one of the shacks, around the corner of the house. The location indexes place it southeast of the beacon. NerdsChalk’s route guide and the Mortal Shell 2 Database describe the same acquisition area.

A broader map index labels the surrounding region Mushroom Village and places the chest near the Ritual Grounds dungeon; these are wider landmarks for the same area, not a separately confirmed chest location. Map Genie’s world map uses those labels. NerdsChalk also notes a flying enemy near the camp and advises clearing it before stopping at the chest; that is route advice, not a verified combat requirement.

The Wounding Stone is a Combat Tarstone whose reported effect is “Melee attacks inflict Perforation.” In the route guide’s explanation, Perforation helps subsequent sidearm damage; it is not described as a direct boost to the melee hit that applies it. NerdsChalk and the Mortal Shell 2 Database both report the core effect.

Practical attack sequence
- Use melee strikes to apply Perforation to an enemy.
- Create enough space to switch to or use your sidearm safely.
- Follow up with the sidearm to take advantage of the effect.
Upgrade stacks are reported inconsistently
Available third-party references disagree on the number of Perforation stacks applied per melee strike at each upgrade level. NerdsChalk lists four levels with 1, 2, 4, and 7 stacks; the Mortal Shell 2 Database lists three levels with 2, 4, and 7. Neither reference establishes which table is correct, and no official game source is cited to resolve the difference. Check the item’s current in-game description rather than relying on an exact count from either table.

AllThingsHow’s guide names the Axatana, Black Needle, Axe and Dagger, The Iconoclast, and Great Martyr’s Blade as compatible weapons, and suggests faster attacks can apply stacks quickly. This list is not established as exhaustive or official. NerdsChalk likewise cautions that compatibility information may be incomplete and advises checking the weapon’s Tarstone slots in-game.
Quick Recap
Rank #2
- Confirm that your chosen weapon has an available Tarstone slot.
- Consider whether its attack speed suits a strategy built around applying Perforation.
- Plan for a safe opportunity to follow melee hits with a sidearm attack.
