Who should use WhatsApp Messenger?
Choose Messenger if you are using WhatsApp mainly for personal communication. It is also appropriate for people who occasionally contact businesses but do not need to present themselves as a business or manage customer inquiries.
WhatsApp says people who are not businesses can continue using Messenger for free. Installing the Business app does not provide a general advantage for ordinary family and friend chats.

The Business app is the practical starting point for a freelancer, shop, tradesperson, creator, consultant, or local service provider who handles customers directly.
Useful reasons to switch
- A public business profile with contact details, website, description, and address.
- Labels or lists that help separate new inquiries, active orders, follow-ups, and completed customers.

When do you need the WhatsApp Business Platform/API?
Start evaluating the Platform/API when messaging must connect to other business systems rather than remain in one person’s phone app.
- Several agents need coordinated access, routing, or assignment.
- Customer messages must create or update CRM, support, or sales records.
- You need chatbot logic, predefined message sequences, or programmatic replies.

Can WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business run on the same phone?
Yes, but each app must use a different phone number. WhatsApp Messenger and the WhatsApp Business app are different apps, and one number cannot be used with both at the same time.

Will switching to WhatsApp Business delete your chats?
WhatsApp documents migration from Messenger to Business with chat history and media. It also documents transferring back to Messenger if you stop using Business. Back up your account before starting, follow the in-app migration prompts, and confirm that your recent chats and media are present after the transfer.
Migration is different from running two accounts: migration moves an account between apps, while two-account use requires two different numbers.
Is WhatsApp Business free?
The WhatsApp Business app is free to download. That does not mean every business feature or message type is free in every market. Some business broadcast functionality may be paid, and availability can change by country, account, and app version.
