Microsoft dated the release 2 October 2026; it is based on Windows 11 version 25H2 and is delivered through an enablement package.
Unicode 17.0 text shaping expands character support
Microsoft says it updated Windows text-shaping support for Unicode 17.0 to help Windows display and shape newly encoded characters and scripts correctly. Unicode 17.0 added 4,803 characters, including four newly encoded scripts: Beria Erfe, Sidetic, Tai Yo and Tolong Siki. The 4,803 figure refers to characters, not scripts. Microsoft’s build notes list these details.

Settings home may load faster in some scenarios
Microsoft says it is making performance improvements to the Settings home page that “should result in reduced loading times in certain scenarios.” The release notes give no measured speed improvement, specify no affected scenarios or hardware, and do not establish that every user will see a change.

Cloud Rebuild gets a Settings entry point
The new entry point is at Settings > System > Recovery. Microsoft describes the change as making Cloud Rebuild easier to access from Settings; the notes do not announce a new underlying recovery capability.

Build 26220.9587 is an Insider preview
Microsoft’s Windows Insider Program notes identify this as a Beta-channel preview based on Windows 11, version 25H2, provided through an enablement package. As with other preview features, the changes may be modified or removed, and Microsoft cautions that some features and experiences may never be released beyond Windows Insiders. Some features in active development may also be incompletely localized. Microsoft’s 2 October 2026 announcement also lists the build among that day’s Beta releases.
